Hmmm . . . you won't admit to anything, huh mariss?  Perhaps you're right. The teacher may have given me the benefit of the doubt since I had already solved the rest of the problem. And since it was almost 40 years ago, I guess we'll never know . . . !

Such things can work if they are not that precise in their grading or willing to give credit for solving most of the problem.  I will not admit to how I know.

Re:

She may have been, adnohr. Either that, or she was just extremely tired after correcting so many tests, and it just "got by her!" Either way, I gladly took the A.

I liked geometry! Our classes were seperate, like yours. I liked them all, and I believe I was the only girl in trigonometry, and it wasn't only to get out of home ec!! Loved your answer - your prof was way kool!

Re:

Oh, it was different alright, Collene! In fact, at least in my high school, every aspect of math was divided into individual classes ( geometry, algebra, calculus, advanced algebra, physics, quantum physics, etc. ) Not many survived . . .

Re: Ugh, geometry, lol..

Thanks, Katray. Luck of the draw, huh? I never thought of it that way, but you may be right. I also had a theory that the teacher may have been very tired that evening, and after correcting so many tests, her vision may have been a bit blurry, and for that split second, she may have thought there actually was an "obvious law" too!

We didn't have Geometry as an individual subject, it was part of Math, it's good to here about a different education system.

Ugh, geometry, lol..

Nothing left to lose..but the obvious, hehe.. Thinking under duress can result in effective outcomes; luck of the draw too, I imagine. Good job, Jimmy!

Re:

Thanks, TAPS. So, anything look obvious to you today . . . ?

Fun read.

Re:

I can empathize, lustor. Classes like geometry, algebra, chemistry, biology, physics . . . they could really take a lot out of you if you were not up to them! I took them, but struggled in each class! I'm so glad I don't have to deal with them anymore!

Re:

I don't recall loving them or hating them chuck, just that some were relatively easy, and some were quite difficult. But if you were to put any one of them in front of me now, my head would probably explode!

Re:

I wouldn't go so far as to say I was "top notch," C C T, but I'll take the compliment for my cleverness and resourcefulness anyway! Yeah, geometry was a tough one . . .

Re: Jimmy

Was that W.C. Fields, Naut? I've heard that before, but was never sure who was credited with it. Hey, the answer seemed obvious to me, and if I got away with it, I got away with it! Thinking back ( some 40 years ago ) I wonder sometimes if it would have made any difference in my life had I come up with the correct law! Oh, well . . .

Re: JimmyA

Burned in oil, Wiley? For being clever and quick on my feet? Fire the teacher for missing one incorrect answer? What would have been the punishment for failing the test entirely? The guillotine? Gee . . . where did you go to school?

Re: good for you with Your law....now nothing to do with Maths could I call

Thanks, Kabu. Yeah, it's kinda nice having my own geometric law! Whether or not it's actually valid is another story altogether . . .

Re:

That's true, Troosha. But you know as well as I do that certain people ( like geometry teachers ) just won't accept that! Mine did . . . once . . . but it was definitely a fluke! I'll take it though!

Re:

Most people are, FSI. It's too bad my "obvious law" isn't on the books . . . it would make many of those problems a lot easier!

Re:

It definitely wasn't easy, sam, so I can sympathize with your son. There's probably very little of it that may come into play in everyday life, but if he needs it to graduate, he'd better buckle down! See if he can use my "obvious law" . . .

I wasnt smart enough to take those classes and couldnt keep up with this

You put me back to my geometry class. I loved solving the geometry problems.

Well my geomatry lessons were so vague I don't remember having them so I'll have to take your word that you are top notch.

Good one! I think it was W.C. Fields who said, "If you can't dazzle them with brilliance, baffle them with bullshit."

It's obvious to ma a teacher should have been fired and a student burned in oil. LOL

Not a bad response when we're feeling under the gun (or stumped).  In fact, most of the times is it obvious.

I could have used the Law on JimmyA on many geometry tests. At times it would have been the only law I would have cited. I was terrible at geometry.

Well it worked out in your favor and so I say BRAVO! My nephew is taking geometry right now and the class is giving him fits but he's getting through it! In fact, he has to otherwise he will not graduate in May! sam
