You're absolutely right. A good narrative or speaking voice can really accentuate any reading material, not just poetry ( my all-time favorite orator has always been Orsen Wells! ) By the way, loved your new word . . . snew!

I love to read poetry aloud.  I read most of the Blogit poems aloud to myself.

Color me green...

The writers group I belong to has turned into the occasional coffee klatch, a get together to watch Jane Austen movies. Frustrating to me. A poetry slam like you had yesterday is more like it!

You do have great ideas Ciel , I don't like swearing in verse, but that is just a preference.

Re: Naut,

I imagine that was due to the long, long tradition of oral history in times when nearly no one was literate. Could be we had better start practicing our oral history-telling again.

Re: you have just found your Niche for the next phase of life.

A niche and a cranny to put it in...  And I agree!

Sounds like fun, and very interesting! And about the reading of poetry - did you know that there is some evidence (which I won't get into here, LOL) that silent reading is a (relatively) recent development? That, at the beginning, the written word was always a spoken word as well?

you have just found your Niche for the next phase of life.

i would love to attend your poetry sessions. no poem is ever given justice until it is read. Not recited, read and preferably by the author.
