Some good points, and therapy is defo a good tool for most people who are just trying to find their own way, and understand themselves better.

A therapist also asks the right questions, or helps the client to see what the right questions are--the ones that need to be answered--to get the troublesome perspective un-stuck. A therapist has to listen carefully to pinpoint what things need to be reframed, and suggest possible reframes.

Yes, sometimes it helps a lot to get the 'distance view' on something that is right under our own nose, too close to get a good focus on, or to really see the surrounding context.

I think the role of a therapist is to listen while the client talks. By talking the person in therapy hears him or herself and maybe begins to understands what he or her is all about. Great post Ciel... Anything anyone can do to de-demonize therapy and make others see it as just another tool to make us well is a great help. xoxoxo

I have spoken with a therapist a time or two.
It was good to get an objective point of view on a situation and was quite helpful.
