My wife and I also have four, and as we say, we've never met a kitty we didn't like! And we too know the potential danger of getting a little too "personal" when it comes to rubbing one of their bellies ( as our many scratch scars will attest ). Best of luck with your new "gang!"

Re: Pat,

Yes, cats are the deciders.

I don't think people have cats; I think the reverse is true.

It's a thing I like about them.

Re: Naut,

Your Bubbles is the same sort of pattern as our Urgo... and as I was going through photos once, of the Italy trip, I stopped short when I saw Urgo sitting on the paving stones of the Pitti Palace in Florence.  Nearly identical patterns!

Nice portrait there... If you have photo editing capability, even very basic, if you bring down the "highlights" some, it will reduce some of the glare.  Not "brightness"--that's different.  I found that my newish laptop has photoediting built in. My grandson discovered it. It has that edit, under "exposure."  Raising contrast a little might help, too.

Re: CCT,

As Sinome says in her comment, some cats are abused and so, sensitized to protect that area.  I think for some it is also instinct, and lack of trust, that triggers that reaction. I've known cats with belly-traps, with no known history of abuse, like my daughter's first cat who just plain had a mean streak!

Re: Sinome,

I have heard other stories like this, and sometimes it can't be known what might have happened.  But I am glad you rescued her, and helped her come in out of the cold, even if it wasn't, finally, to be with you.

Re: BC-A,

By all means keep your sweetie far from my sweet and intact guy!

Re: Adnohr,

My problem is that every cat is my favorite!

Love your cats! We've only got one now, Bubbles, but maybe I'll write about the day we ended up with twelve...

So cute... I love cats!  Mojo's belly trap is probably the result of abuse he was the victim of sometime in his life... I adopted a kitten once from the humane society where I volunteered who had been abused and kicked over and over.  She came to us only three weeks old with a broken jaw and I had to feed her with a dropper cuz they wired it shot.  When she was healed I took her home and named her Fatima.  She lived under my range for about a month, only coming out to feed and relieve herself... eventually she cozzied up to me and became very loving but if by accident I would touch her chin while petting her...watch out!  I still have scars from that 3 pounder little beasty loll  Fatima ran away after a huge white Tom cat and years later I saw her living in the house of the  neighbor her Tom lived with, (the ingrate loll) :-)   Be well Ciel... xoxoxo
