Yes, very smart of you. And I would not go far a patent first, they are very expensive, $3,000.00 and up, and they are very time consuming as well. There are places on the Internet where you can get a patent pending number which protects your invention for a year. Time enough to know if your invention is sellable or not before you invest big dollars in a patent. These can be had for around $300.00

That's too bad on the chocolate gators! But I guess I'm not surprised that it is happening in Florida! You are busy and I think that's a good thing! I hope you make you goal to move by November! I know how trying that can be! sam

I agree with Kabu. When you try to juggle too many things simultaneously, something usually gets dropped! Make your priority list, and then go from there. And are there really Choco Gators already? Hmmm . . . like you said, it's a good thing you didn't pursue it too quickly and waste a lot of time and money. I still like my Sweet Creatures of the Swamp idea though . . .
