The only thing I know about temperature is 0 degrees Celsius is 32 degrees Fahrenheit. I used to know how to convert Celsius to Kelvin but have forgotten...The interactions between Mummy and Katie are always interesting.

Thank you Justi we have enough about violence. Was the job suitable for George?

Re:

No of course not, don't believe a word she says. Her pussy cat would soon make short work of a little warm creature. Yes Arthur has pinched mine but he said he has ordered two pairs from Amazon.  Please tell Kabu to be careful she does not take notice of me falling over in the snow at her age.

Yes it was a bit annoying Kabu Archie offered me six loaves and I thought I had no where to store them. I have some peanut butter ,I will get a loaf today and let you know if the birds like it. I expect Freddy Wren will moan a bit he likes meal worms.

Re: ChiffChaff

Wiley sadly I think you did not appreciate the beautiful intertwining delicate frame work of that rare orchid, perhaps a sun flower would meet your approval. I put my ice studs on an old pair of shoes but one has to be careful walking on the vinyl. 52 c that was some frosty weather. Katie is a modern child I think. Be careful on the road.

Re: CCT

Yes Naut it is a bit boggling when one looks at the discrepancy at say 20F. I still go by F anyway, it is more suitable in the greenhouses. Yes I have to think of Kabu she is not familiar with this small species.

Re:

The councils are trying to save money Sam. If they do not it will mean the Council Tax

increasing, "Well they do keep the main roads, we are on a little Close ideally we should have a bunker of sand and a salt supply. I might mention it when the next council election is in force.

Re: I could have used ice grippers to get down the icy steps

Be careful Pat it only wants one false move and down one goes I wondered what measure you worked on we use to be F. but are now C. My brother only buys peanuts he is afraid seeds will grow on his garden. I use shelled sunflower seeds suet balls and cat nibbles.

The fishy cat nibbles are a favourite with the blackbirds and they are slowly eating the top of a  Christmas cake that had thick icing.

Re: CCT

No Bill I have several small ones some to accommodate the tiny birds or they would not get a look in.

ADo you have a large birdfeeder sir? BC-A, Bill’s R®st

I could have used ice grippers to get down the icy steps

to the bird feeder, but I mentioned the problem to my son, and he came over to refill the feeder and sprinkle ice melter. It will be a bit warmer tomorrow - it was 32 F. here for the high today. I love the bird's names and the cross-purposes between the teacher's inquiry and what our little Katie thought she was asking. And the fairy has a cloak of invisibility... very nice.

I love how you wrapped up this segment! I liked Naut's explanation of the difference! There's a push, although we were supposed to be here by now, to convert to the metric system perhaps we should include celsius! People don't seem to like change so I doubt it will happen! That's terrible that you cannot get sand or salt in your area~ keep the down trodden down so to speak! It always seems it's about the money! The guy in charge can have it all but he will still slip, if not on the ice then in his life and his tumble will be far greater than any in the poorer parts of town in my humble opinion! It's all a matter of time! STAY WARM! sam

CCT

The reason that F and C intersect at -40 has to do with two points: 1) C calls the temp when water freezes 0, F  calls it 32; 2) the gradation in F is finer (the 'bits' are smaller) than in C. And when you hold an F and a C thermometer side by side, you can see it...

And Kabu will be happy to hear that the gnome didn't croak...

ChiffChaff

When it gets to -40 they didn't care anymore. The coldest I've ever been in was -52c in White River Ontario in 1975 I think. I have those ice thingy's too but they are never useful because it's too hard to get them on my shoes now. We feed our birds those suet feeders in cages.

Katie seems a precocious child what? I still think, excuses, excuses about that ghastly orchid Bro.

to answer adnohr....I do have a couple of Bantam Gnomes, they live inside.

Cheerful little folk so they be.

Seems you have ice problems like us. I put on WEllington Boots yesterday and walked through the snow up to my knees. Fell over about 6 times but no harm done.

Buy a loaf of day old bread. Put peanut butter on a few slices . cut them up small. even rub some small seeds into the peanut butter. The birds will scoff the lot. and its cheaper than cat food.

I have some of those ice studs that fit over neary any size of boot. Very wise to put th em on when walking my hills here. This story is getting more and more interesting. I wonder if Kabu has a Bantam gnome living at her place?
