I understand the metaphor as well as the spiritual reasoning. But for me, the word crucifixtion congers up images of a slow, painful death, even if it is just to the physical. My own personal crucifixions usually have to do with exorcising demons from my past, and not necessarily as a preperation for my "future." We will leave the physical behind upon entering the kingdom of Heaven, but a tortured soul will need all the comforting and support that only a loving god can provide. I don't want to be crucified for feeling that way . . .
