Have you read what John Cornyn, Senior Senator for Texas, has to say about Mr. Hagel?

We should be very concerned about Hagel. Hopefully he gets the Susan Rice treatment when Obama wanted her for Secretary of State.

Naut

He has been elected. He will do as he pleases. I doubt there will be a hearing. This president is doing more and more of what he wants and nobody is doing anything about it. I am not going to talk much about politics this year there is so little to say, it has been said. We must not walk on Israel. Iran and all her buddies get a pass by him, he simply continues to hide the truth.

We must please try to remember that our dear president spent twenty years in a church that spewed hatred for Jews and America in the foulest of ways, with this knowledge, is there any surprise as to the actions of this somehow misunderstood man when it comes to Israel and the USA?

I totally agree with you Naut in that Hagel is not the best choice for Secretary of Defense.  That said, Obama is not known by his good choices so again I am not surprised that he would pick such a controversial candidate.  To be honest though... I think the guy is getting a bad wrap... I do not think he is a "friend' of Iran He just opposed the sanctions thinking they would piss the Iranians and put stop at any chance to get a negotiated settlement of the issues at hand. I am not by any means privy to what is happening in that area nor am I an expert in foreign relations but I can see plainly that those economic sanctions that the UN and the US are so fond of just do not work very well... As examples I will give you the ( is it 50 years?) Cuban Embargo. and there are many others... so his opposition to that is, to a point, understandable because like most Americans he still thinks the Iranians reason like them... while you and I know they don't reason at all :-)  Anti Israel... yes, he is made nasty comments and favored the two state solution and the negotiations with the terrorists that he, Hagel, does not consider terrorists... OK I give you that one He is not fond of Israel.  but I think the main argument for him not being the Secretary of defense is that he opposed the war in Iraq when it got unpopular... and he is "Vietnam scared"  scarred probably by his participation in that war ( after all he was wounded twice and they sent him back ... Maby we are talking the "Manchurian Candidate"  ( Great movie) here... I don't know ...Oh and he also hates gays  now that the army dropped that ridiculous mandate of "Don't ask, don't tell" ( as if everyone could not tell) Many cons and very few pros... I will be looking forward to the confirmation hearings.  Oh wow, again I went over board here... sorry this happens when I comment late at night to an interesting post :-)  Be well Naut and I am sorry :-(  xoxoxoxo
