I think many of us have endured a similar childhood. I honestly don't know what my parent's expectations for me actually were, other than just being happy with my lot in life, but I was never hampered or compared to my siblings in any way either ( I am the 4th of 6 children ). Don't wallow in regrets, and embrace yourself as you are. And sometimes "walls" are a good thing to have around you. You have to protect yourself at all times. But remember, walls also have doors, and when you do decide to open one up, you'll be surprised who might be waiting there, like all of your friends here at Blogit!

We weren't encouraged to work after we were married back then. The home and

the kids, that was what we were supposed to do. I never had a job until I was 28 and had to work. I worked two nights a week in a truck joint 7. pm -5.am next morning. $13.00 a night no tax no tips...they went into a jar and disappeared.

You have been a great Mum and a lot of folk wouldn't have gone ahead and had that last Child as you did.  You had a good job that you held down for years. personally, I am proud to be your friend here on Blogit.

It's tough to live up to the expectations of a parent! I went through that kind of thing but at 21 I took charge of my own life and have been content with how things turned out! You still have a life to live and live up to your own expectations and I believe you will be all the better for it! sam
