I think I've had my fill of Lincoln movies, regardless of the premise, because I already know just about every aspect of his life . . . and death. Abraham Lincoln was absolutely a great, principled man, and had the toughest presidency in our history because he had to endure a civil war. But two things that people seem to forget. First, Lincoln had claimed several times, on record, that he really didn't care all that much about slavery. All he cared about was reuniting the nation under one government. If the end of slavery was a by-product of that unification, then so be it. If certain states were still able to retain slaves, but still united under one U.S. flag, then that was fine too ( I think deep down he knew that slavery would eventually come to an end, it just wasn't at the top of his agenda! ). And secondly, the 13th Amendment, which formally ended slavery, wasn't ratified until well after Lincoln's death, during the Johnson administration. He did indeed get the ball rolling, but technically did not see the complete end to slavery in his lifetime. However, he did get to see the reunification of his country and the end of the Confederacy, which were far more important to him. And because of his visions and perseverance, that's why his likeness is carved on the side of Mt. Rushmore!

Very interesting post.  I hope to see the realistic version soon.  I'm not sure I will seek out the vampire version, but I can see how some people would enjoy that.  I heard recently that a new chainsaw movie is coming out in 3-D.  I can't imagine wanting to see blood and gore spraying my direction.

I saw it as well and enjoyed it too. The only thing that was really off was that Lincoln hated foul language and I don't think he would have put up with it like he did in the movie as he had soldiers harshly punished for using it.
