I'm glad, TAPS. Nothing wrong with putting a smile on someone's face with a cute tale or two! I'll have to think of more . . .

Re:
That's true, lustor. That's probably why mom had no idea what was actually in that box! With the way things are packaged, and with all of the numbers, lettering and bar codes, it could be anything! But of course she was eventually elated when she realized it actually was a TV!

Re:
That could be, C C T. But after that first "re-use" of the box the following year, everyone was pretty much resided to the fact that we probably wouldn't be getting anymore bamboo ships! It was fun though . . .

Re:
Same to you, Annicita. I'm sure mom is thrilled with her new TV. Yes, it was fun for many years passing that bamboo ship box back and forth amongst each other, and I used to always wonder if they even make such a product anymore!
A research project for another day!

That's always good to hear, FSI. There's never anything wrong with relaying stories that can bring others a bit of happiness, even for a little while!

Re:
Well, Utah, I'm sure that at some point in time, she may be viewing a ship on her new TV, but I'm fairly certain it won't be that ship! Like I wrote, I have no idea whatever happened to that damned thing! Glad you enjoyed this tale.

Re:
Yes it was, chuck, made special by the fact that 1) she really didn't need one, and 2) that someone else will be doing all of the "hooking up" for her!

Re: How nice for your mother and even better, someone to set it all working.
Well, Kabu, like I wrote, she was very happy with her new television, once she realized that there was actually a television in that box! And having someone else hook it all up for her was just the icing on the cake! It will be fun to see if, down the road, someone reuses that box!

Re: I suppose you can now use that TV box for the next 'bamboozle' box
That's true, Ciel. Now, if someone has a huge coat or jacket, or some other large item they wish to pack and wrap, that TV box will come in mighty handy! And hopefully the next person doesn't think that they're getting a new TV as well. See now the "deception of recycling?"

Re: Jimmy
Of course, Naut, that was always a possibility. But I think that the "original" bamboo ship may have been somewhat of a "one-shot-deal," and no one really cared about getting one of their own. And back then, any gloves were better than no gloves, regardless of their color!

Well it must have given someone a thrill to see the box each year. Perhaps Mum was thinking of the time you were all children and full of wonder when you saw the ship.

I suppose you can now use that TV box for the next 'bamboozle' box
but it will possibly call for much larger things than fit in the bamboo ship box. What a way to up the ante!

Neat! I like that - it adds another 'layer' of surprise! Of course, it can also backfire - someone might be really delighted at getting a bamboo ship and be somewhat disappointed at finding a pair of gloves, and of the wrong colour...
