I wasn't thinking burnt toast. I was going to guess "shoulder pads." Ya know, the ones sown into some women's sweaters that make their shoulders look like they're doing an impression of Frankenstein! I know many women who rip the damned things out altogether, and that's what I thought they might have been! Have a great Christmas!

You are very observant. It is two slices of toasted (very toasted) garlic bread that Sis forgot in the oven and filled her kitchen with black smoke and screeching smoke alarm and terrible smell to everything. You would not believe the other guesses she got:
• truffles from Germany's Black Forest
• removable bra cup inserts for exercising
• lumps of coal to place in the Christmas stockings of bad children
• the last two Hostess Ding Dongs in existence
• bresaola
• nipple hiders
• and others too silly to mention

And those two things? To me they look like slices of chocolate cake or very dark bread, like pumpernickel...
