That sounds like an awful lot of trouble.

Re: UJ,
Yes, a lot of people grew hemp, it was a wonderful useful crop, until the plastic rope people convinced the legislators of the day that all hemp was pot, and all pot was Reefer Madness stuff.

Interesting info! And it occurred to me that they wax the hemp to prevent people from smoking it...

Re: Now that's useful information....
I love using alpaca! Two great things about it: it isn't a kinked fiber like sheep's wool, so it doesn't tangle when you try to unravel it. I once got a second hand alpaca sweater that had more holes than it needed, to get into it, and unraveled it, made it into half a dozen wonderfully warm hats. One of those hats went with a friend who was going on a church mission to Siberia, to be traded for something Siberian. He ended up giving it to a man with a cold head, and I was fine with that!
The second thing is that the fiber is hollow. That is why alpaca is a lot warmer than sheep's wool.

Now that's useful information....
I bought a skein of hand-spun alpaca yarn from a woman up at the farmer's market last summer, crocheted a watch-cap out of it. Softest, warmest hat I've ever worn. :)
