Re:
That's true, mariss. Perhaps that's what eventually drove him to find a way out of doing it for a third time in a row!

Well, maybe it was best to take turns anyway since he didn't even have any kids!

Actually, Utah, from all accounts, I think it may have been a lot of Christmas cheer! And I don't think it was just "spiked eggnog" either!

Re: JimmyA
Sure, Wiley. I could understand it as well. The difference is though, he was only in his twenties at the time! Perhaps he had some other reason for wanting to call it quits. Regardless, it was fun while it lasted, and Uncle Bill's final performance gave us a rather unique and wonderful memory.

He did indeed, Kabu. And he required no make-up at all to portray that "red" nose either! I'm sure the booze took care of that!

Re:
Thanks, TAPS. Not only did we have fun at the time as young children, but such episodes have left us with terrific memories as well. Good ol' Uncle Bill . . .

Re: Jimmy
I would hope so, Naut. At the time a few people might have been upset with him, but fifty years later, he has left us with an endearing Christmas story to retell! In fact, there's a halfway decent chance that Uncle Bill may not even remember that particular episode, although it would be easy to speculate why!

He knows that now, lustor. Or at least we think he knows that now! Santa first . . . booze later . . .

Utterly hilarious! And I bet you Uncle Bill never lived that episode down entirely - although by now I'm sure everyone in the family has forgiven him...

Re: I have loved reading about your uncle and christmas.....
Thanks, Symphony. Yes, there is still one more tale to relay, but it will jump ahead many years after Uncle Bill's turn at playing Santa! The torch has been passed . . .

Re:
We certainly didn't, Annicita. Even when this tale was relayed to us some years after the fact, I still couldn't make the connection, or visualize a "drunken" Santa as opposed to a "sober" one! But, we still enjoyed ourselves!

Re: perhaps the language also become a little colorful for the Santa suit...
You're probably right, Kabu. In our excitement, and with our very young ages, a drunken Santa would probably easily go unnoticed. Hey, he's supposed to be "jolly," isn't he?

Re: I can just imagine what the adults had to say about it, after.
I was always kinda curious about that too, Ciel. That was one aspect of the tale that no one ever brought up. Unfortunately, at this point in time, that same Uncle Bill is the last remaining member of my dad's family. I guess I'll just have to go to the horse's mouth to get those particular answers, providing he can even still remember that episode!

Re:
Hard to say, FSI. I know there are some people out there who seem to need alcohol to "loosen" them up. But we had never heard of a "drunken Santa" before that night!

Re:
Thanks, Ramfamily. Yeah, I guess Uncle Bill just couldn't wait for Santa to make his final departure before starting his own X-mas celebration. But, fifty years later, we forgave him!

I imagine Uncle Bill was feeling pretty good after going to the neighbor's...I wonder if playing Santa would lose its luster if I did it.

Uncle Bill was celebrating X-mas in a different manner, eh? Good addition to the tale, Jimmy.
