Re: JimmyA
It's true, we want healing when something hurts, and forget about it when the pain goes dull. But every feather in the balance makes some difference. Could be 20 first-graders will finally tip this one.
Carlin was right about a lot of things, but I think the telling of truths is sometimes offered not as a cynical conclusion, but a challenge not to leave things as they are.

Not to sound callous but, I think George Carlin said it best when he exclaimed "Usually after every tragedy, someone will say 'Now the healing can begin.' No, there is no healing. Just a brief pause before the next tragedy." Of course I will always hope that he's wrong, but it just doesn't seem to be the case anymore!

Re: Annicita,
I agree, a lot. A rock is dangerous in the hands of someone who wants to kill with it.
At the very least, certain kinds of weapons should be kept well away from the general public. Hunting I understand, even see as necessary now, as, in our thoughtful stewardship of this planet, we have done our best to eliminate fellow-predators. So, we have to take their place, maintaining some balance in prey herds. But we don't need automatic weapons to do that.

Re:Naut,
Things do change. They change slowly, but they change if we want them to, and insist on it. Or we would still be living rough in the trees. But inertia--often in the form of selfishness, bogs down change, and we so often replace common sense with emotional impulses and concretized investments.

it's all about the NRA...it's not the guns ... it's the people ... but if it's harder to get and must follow licensing and waiting procedures most of the tragedies would never happen...so thanks a lot charleton heston and all you other NRA nuts!
