Re:

Good for you, Against. And you ( and the rest of Washington and Oregon ) probably drink responsibly as well. That's the difference in the ranking, I assume . . . the light drinkers vs. the heavy drinkers! I guess I would consider myself a very light drinker!

Re:

Well that's not good, TAPS! I have a friend who also consumes his fair share of beer, and he alone could have probably dropped New Jersey's rank from 48th down to something like 30th! I am glad I don't really care for the taste of beer!

I noticed that neither Wahington nor Oregon in the top ten.  They have a lot of micro-breweries.  That leads me to speculate that people here drink with a great connoisseur sense, but do not drink as much.  I have that connoisseur sense.

I notice that Missouri is not on the top ten, but I think my Son #1 is trying to correct that.  He is the only one of my sons who ever imbibed and it seems to me, much to my despair, he tries to drink enough for all of them.

I think I know what you mean, Annicita. That's why I was also glad to see that Jersey was ranked 48th! There are just some lists that you don't want to be in the Top Ten for!

well finally a stat that my state doesn't make the top 10 when it's something not positive....whew!

Re: Good question!

You're probably right, Katray. Most of the reports on this topic do conclude that young males are the biggest consumers of beer, so it would stand to reason that those states with the highest poulations of young males would ( or should ) be in the Top Ten states of beer consumers. And you're also right that sometimes a nice, cold beer does go good with pizza! Only problem is, you end up burping a lot! At least I do . . .

Well, Straight, someone must be paying attention to and following such stats, and more than likely, it's the beer manufacturers! As any good salesman knows, you go where your particular product sells best! But a few of the states in the Top Ten surprised me. You would have figured that the states with the highest populations would have "tipped the scale"  a bit, so to speak . . .

Re:

I didn't want to be the one to say that, luster, but you may be right. I suppose some states prefer wine, while others prefer beer. I guess if nothing too exciting is going on in North Dakota or New Hampshire, they might as well get drunk, right?

posted by JimmyA on December 6, 2012 at 1:38 PM | link to this | reply

Good question!

Maybe in the states with the highest male populations?..:) Just my could-be-wrong thought that guys are bigger consumers of beer than us wine 'n dine females. I personally only drink the stuff once or twice yearly to be sociable with male relatives and there has to be pizza involved too, lol. Interesting stats!

This survey is interesting because it also mentions the context of the

consumption. Otherwise, they would be just statistics and boring and useful for nothing.

well I didnt see CA or AZ so what are they drinking, all those states mentioned dont have anything better to do

Re: Here's consumption for Canada but you have to do the math. LOL

Wow, that's a lot of liters, Wiley! Is it all Molson, or are there a few American beers thrown in just for good measure?

Re: They are in Australia mate...in Australia....LOL...but not me, can't stand

As do a lot of others, Kabu. If I had a choice, I think I'd rather have a glass of wine than a beer too. So the Land Down Under has all the beer drinkers, huh?

Re: Jimmy

Oh I see, Naut. So you're the one who tips the scale when you visit New Hampshire!  How much beer can one actually consume?

Re:

On occasion, mariss, I might have a wine cooler myself, especially the fruit-flavored ones. They're usually pretty low in alcohol, and I can enjoy them a lot more than a beer. But even with wine coolers I'll only have one! For me it's not the alcohol as much as it is the sugar content! More than one and I sometimes get a headache!

Re:

That's probably true, C C T. And stretch they do! Sometimes it's fairly easy to pick out the beer drinkers amongst us just by looking at how their bellies hang over their belts! And non-alcoholic beer tastes just as bad as regular beer to me! Something about those darned hops . . .

What's a relief, Utah? That New Jersey ranked 48th, or that Utah isn't in the Top Ten?

Well, FSI, I can only surmise that there may not be a whole heck of a lot to do in Delaware but drink beer! ( no offense to any Delawarians, if there are any in here! )

Re: I'm from Joisey... and I don't drink beer.

Beer in cheese sauce, Ciel? Hmmm . . . never heard of that! I have a friend who puts beer in his home-made chili, but with him, I think more beer goes into the cook than the chili!

Interesting! I have no idea why NH should rank so high. Mind you - I've been there on occasion, maybe that's why...

Not here, I no longer drink anything anyway, but did not like the taste back then when I would have an occaisional wine cooler.

Well Jimmy I sort of took up drinking non alcoholic beer because I noticed it was usually on offer at the store and I was inclined to drink wine which grows on one. Anyway I only drink a pint a day so that does not come to many gallons, I think the tummy has to stretch to much to accommadate a tankful unless it has seen too many happy days.

I wonder where the beer drinkers are too. Interesting list there. I would not have expected Delaware to have made the top ten.

I'm from Joisey... and I don't drink beer.

I do cook with it sometimes--makes a heck of a cheese sauce!
