Re:

I hope not, Annicita. You would think that $200,000+ would suffice for almost anyone. But how much of a dire straight did he have to be in to part with such a personal memento? I guess it wasn't too much of a tough call for him to make!

Re: Re: Re: Calvin and Hobbes have always been a favorite

No, Ciel, I'm afraid I've never heard of it ( them ). If it's a fairly recent strip, then I definitely would not know anything about them. Like I mentioned to someone else, I actually stopped reading the strips a while ago. They've simply lost their appeal for me, along with their humor. Calvin & Hobbes was the last strip I read daily.

Re:

That's okay, luster. Not everyone can have heard of everything. But if you have the time, look them up on the internet and see for yourself what they were all about. If you like anything with an amazing amount of imagination and creativity, you won't be disappointed!

Re: Amazing prices! My fave comic strip will always be "Peanuts"

Well that's good, Katray. Many strips have come and gone, and so few have had the "staying power" like Peanuts and Calvin & Hobbes. Yeah, those were some amazing prices . . .!

doubt if that guy is in debt any more!

Re: JimmyA

That's okay, Wiley. I'm sure there are many "characters" from Canada that I wouldn't be familiar with either. Calvin was a little boy with an unbelievably over-active imagination, and Hobbes was his stuffed tiger who was "alive" and talked and interacted with Calvin . . . when nobody else was around! The shenanigans "they" got into were bizarre and hilarious. Check them out sometime . . . you won't be disappointed!

Re: just wait and see what an original Kabu Rock painting will fetch on day

That's true, Kabu! Hey, ya never know! Unfortunately for most artists, the value of their work is never fully realized until after they're long gone! So head to that auction block today . . .

Re: Calvin and Hobbes have always been a favorite

It was sad, Ciel, because it's very difficult anymore to come up with characters such as those who have such a social impact, like Mickey Mouse, Bugs Bunny and Snoopy. I must admit, I don't really read the strips anymore, for one simple reason . . . I just don't find them funny anymore. Calvin & Hobbes was the last strip I followed religiously, and I have all of their books as well!

Re:

I know, FSI . . . for two weeks no less! And like I've been telling everyone else, now I kinda wish I still had those particular strips! Hey, ya never know!

Re:

Well, C C T, I must admit, I've never heard of Desperate Dan, but he was obviously one of your favorites. Yeah, it's very difficult to come up with any concept today that will have any real "staying" power. A sign of the times indeed . . .

Re: Jimmy A

They just might, Justi. The only problem is, we'll never know. At the time, I had no idea that Hobbles was spelled incorrectly, and by the time I realized that the newspaper had been wrong all that time, those copies were long gone! One can only speculate . . .

Re: there's one medium rife and fertile. I'll do the text! Do you draw at all?

Actually, dsm tchr, I used to, a long time ago. However, my "drawing hand" was somewhat destroyed some time ago due to overwork ( a long story . . . read my book "The Hindering" and you'll understand ).

Re: Jimmy

That's possible, Naut. Sometimes people pay big money for certain "errors" ( like the famous Curtiss JN-4 airplane "Inverted Jenny" 24 cent stamp of 1918 ). But, as you've said, I doubt those Calvin & Hobbles strips would have brought that kind of money! I can dream though . . .

Calvin and Hobbes have always been a favorite

in my household!  I was also saddened by the artist's decision to retire.

Those are some big dollar figures there...That is something how they ran with the Hobbles.

Well Jimmy I noticed one of my childhhod comics ceased today. Old Desperate Dan will not be eaten any more cow pies wtih the horns still in them. Sign of the times I guess.

I agree with Nautikos. All things of the sort are rare and have worth.

Of course it's hard to prove, but I suspect your 'Calvin and Hobbles' strips actually would be worth something to a collector,  even if they wouldn't necessarily bring anything like the figures you've mentioned here...
