Fairy tales are one thing, mariss, but I believe these other "phenomenons" are taxing too many people's imaginations! A part of me kinda wishes they were real, but a bigger part of me knows they're not!

None of the above, other than the Bermuda triangle and cannot theorize what that may be. Pranksters and Cons will get off on planting animal and fake remains that are them and maybe pretending other creatures are the Loch Ness. Many people love fairy tales, including me.

Glad you enjoyed it, Justi. So, how about you? Bigfoot . . . or no Bigfoot? Or would you rather abstain from the whole discussion?

Re: Re: Re: Fossil evidence?
Of course, Ciel. My wife and I always enjoy watching nature programs of any kind, learning so much over the years about the world around us! Not only have we learned a great deal about the animal kingdom and the Earth itself, but we've also learned about the discovery process many of these scientists, archeologists and naturalists use to learn these things. The patience of a cameraman to wait for the right moment to catch on film one elusive creature after another. Seeing things in the depths of the ocean that no one had ever seen before! Discovering why something is the way it is, or where it came from, or how it was formed. And of course, studying one natural phenomenon usually opens the door of discovery to other aspects of nature. And even with all of that though the years, I still have not seen anything to convince me of Bigfoot's existence either!

Of course not, Straight! Hey, you can believe anything you want to believe! There's a lot of that kind of stuff that's actually fun to speculate on. Life on other planets, life at the center of the earth, other dimensions . . . take your pick, and have a ball! As for this mortal soul, I'm just a little more grounded in reality I suppose. What speculations I do have about the universe in general seem to run far, far deeper . . .

Re: Re: Fossil evidence?
I'm not convinced either, one way or the other. As far as I know, that's what fossils there are that point in the direction.

a way with these? And you surely don't want to deny mortal souls like us of these pleasures?

Re:
That's true, adnohr. But the difference is, this is one thing that we have the definite capability to see! Motion detectors, cameras, infrared scanners, radar . . . I think we have enough modern technology by now to have captured something already, even a distinct image or two! And yet . . . nothing! Sorry, still not buying it!

Re: Fossil evidence?
I actually did, Ciel, and everything I read said the same thing . . . that creature probably existed more than nine million years ago, and fossils found in China, India and Vietnam show it lasted up to about 100,000 years ago! It was of the genus ape, and was unusually large as compared to modern apes and monkeys. However, no evidence of its existence was found anywhere in North America, nor was there any evidence found anywhere that suggested the creature still existed in any form! Sorry . . . still not sold on Bigfoot!

Re: Jimmy
Well, Naut, there may be some types of Bigfoot ( or would that be Bigfeet ) out there, giving the shoe and sneaker manufacturers a run for their money! But if you were to throw "hirsute" into the mix, now we'd have something!

Re:
That's okay, luster. There are some things out there that just aren't worth wasting your brain-power on, and this is probably one of them! Believe me, if I read somewhere that everyone has finally given up all hope of actually finding or capturing a Bigfoot, I would not lose any sleep at all!

Re: i am relieved that we agree about the Gnomes...that means you have learned
A Bunyip? That's a new one on me, Kabu. Yes, I'm sure almost every culture has their stories and legends about bizarre and unusual creatures that, for their time, defied the laws of nature in one manner or another. But in the end, they all get explained logically, but the people keep the legends alive, just for the fun of it! I still don't believe in Bigfoot though . . .

Re:
That's true FSI. But a couple of things to consider. First, the giant squid that was found was indeed a "monster," but certainly not nearly large enough to swallow whole ships, like the sea legends of old spoke about. It was just unusually large for its species. And secondly, the oceans are much, much more vast than the Pacific Northwest, which has been combed extensively for decades now, with still no definitive proof of Bigfoot! There are probably many more unusual creatures to be discovered in the ocean. But a Bigfoot? You would think one would have been captured by now!

Re: Since you asked..:)
Thanks, Katray. I thought it might pique the interests of a few people. As for those unusual lights, I must admit that I have read and heard several stories over the years of similar sightings and experiences. But as bizarre and mysterious as they initially seem, each and every one has been explained in a simple, logical manner. Yes, the military is involved with all sorts of experiments that will never be divulged to the general public, and scientists have shown how certain weather patterns ( low clouds, lightning strikes, various aerial anomalies, pollution, etc. ) can distort our vision, and make us "see" things a bit differently than they really are. Believe me, I would find it utterly fascinating to have definitive proof of intelligent ( and advanced ) life existing elsewhere. As for whatever you're keeping "mum" about, I hope it's juicy . . . !

Big Foot ...well as you say show me just one bit of evidence like some bones. In Australia the aboriginal people had stories of a Bunyip....a big nasty that lived in water holes.

Since you asked..:)
Not convinced about Bigfoot, but I and several family members have seen triangle shaped sets of lights way out in the country where nothing else was around for miles. It was early in the morning, still dark and at first we thought they were antennas of some kind until we remembered there were no buildings anywhere. This was on a motor paper route that belonged to my teen age son and of course I drove him most of the time. After hearing our weird ramblings about these lights, my husband went along for the ride for awhile and he too saw them. They were fast moving and seemed to change in shape and distance at the blink of an eye. We have watched the military channel or some such and heard about the U.S. military testing planes over the MidWest; can't remember the name of the one that seemed to kind of, sort of fit the description of what we witnessed. But there is a stranger side to this story too that I mostly keep mum about...
Fascinating post!
