i wrote an Historical novel a few years ago. The story wouldn't let me
resy until I had finished....trouble is an unwanted character from a much later period inserted herself and ruined my book. i still haven't removed her.

Now it's getting really interesting! I think it's a good thing for a character to escape the author's straightjacket...

Re: Taps - characters who do their own thing...
It almost always happens that way, Taps. Our "mind children" seem to have their own goals and objectives, just like the real ones. :)

The only book I really ever tried to write started off well. Then after a bit, my characters started going in directions that I didn't want them to go. I tried to change their directions to my specifications but they would not cooperate. In the end, I gave up and stored it away. Once in a great while I pull it out and wonder if I could fight with them again, but I just don't have what it takes.
