I don't know enough about the Church of England to comment on that matter...Some strong words against the woman in the poem.

Dear CCT - since I'm not in that congregation, it's their business.

But I will say the organized churchs are man-designed as an attempt to do God's work. A woman delivered and taught His son - that seems endorsement enough for me.

It seems odd that women are barred from a profession where the uniform appears to be some kind of dress...

Re: Adnohr

Yes Adnohr my Grampy came home filthy from the first war eaten with lice so my Mum said and the silly old clergyman visited and grumbled at him for not shining his buttons.

In those days one did not speak out to one's betters, but the grampy told my mother to shine buttons gave snipers a good shot. He did not want to go back, his wife had to drag him to the station,he had volunteered as he had been a  regular soldier. A telegram was received  not long after, like thousands more. Yes I can picture you and Bird tugging rhubarb.

Perfect description - their ill conceived inherent worthiness! The poem is cute - I could see myself and my brother, Bird in that poem.

CCT

{Excellent poems today sir. In the States both the Episcopal sister of your Church of England and the United Methodist Church have women bishops. Usually these churches that practiced the Social Gospel here in the nineteenth century update to contemporary culture. Would you take offense? I love you from only reading your poems and comments. For myself I believe it within my country’s constitution for individual church bodies or denominations if you want to think, applying wider definition for specifics that people belong to the churches that use their own understanding of Scripture for their own services not as a response to a prejudice against certain newer groups in the U.S. but out of sincerity to their own individual confession of their own faith that’s different than other church bodies but for mine Christian that does agree with other Christians on the creeds that are the basic summaries of Biblical beliefs. However Thomas Jefferson and the U.S. Constitution never sought to start or create a religion. It wasn’t the intent. He, the other forefathers, founders, and the U.S. Constitution presumed that the colonists came to America already belonging to a denomination, that was predominately either the Anglican (Church of England) or Puritan (Congregational) churches. For myself this refers no interference by the Government was intended to change the practices of worship that didn’t hurt anyone (in example, hanging, dunking, and burning of witches and non believers in New England), go against the norm of Western civilization (in example polygamy and suicide terrorism), and are within the cultural tradition of western civilization. This leads me back to your issue with the COE. Henry VII considered the Lutheran Confessions by Martin Luther and that Council for those of the Anglican Church. But he found trouble over a political or social issue of some sort and went with John Calvin’s Reformed stance. But the Reformed confessional view when influenced by the Armenian proves more flexible for social change in the structure of the church. So the women bishops in England could still happen in the near future sir. The majority of the beliefs of the members makes it characteristic of the denomination sir. God bless you. I also like your second poem. Cool. BC-A, Bill’s R®st
