I do all the cooking here. My wife keeps telling me to write down my recipies, but I don't have any...I just cook...I get into a "zone" when I cook.

Some philosophies seek to let go of thought, to quiet the mind--

as in Zen meditation.  That is another zone, a quiet zone where one can let experience flow, without mental chatter or analysis or judging.  As one given to an over-abundance of 'ruminative thought' that kind of quiet is very inviting.

When my writing is going well, I'm "in the zone" and time disappears.

The past few days it seems the zone is shut down for repairs. There's static or something interfering. I was in the zone earlier, getting my mother's story and the imaginings of her happy little place in heaven - but today and yesterday... pffft!

Nice Post dear Taps..and when life was bad for me I used to go to my

planet of Zorg where it was always happy and pleasant and no one could reach me. Don't go there now. oh and your comment at Wiley's post yesterday was funnier than his joke!

A "thought zone" is probably the one thing we all have in common. One can never turn thoughts off, and probably shouldn't. Thoughts are like the air in our lungs. They come in, they go out, they are with us constantly, and probably essential for our existence as human beings. Yes, I can concentrate on the task at hand, keeping my general thoughts at bay. But sometimes it's nice to let the mind drift, and think and ponder and think and dream and think and create and think and think and think some more . . .

I enjoyed that post and feel much the same about 'thoughts' and do find that writing helps. My thoughts are bombarded continuously because I have such terrible tinnitus.
