Fascinating! Harder work than today perhaps, but at a slower pace.I can remember walking into a print room, where the paper was rolling off the presses, and inhaling that lovely smell! There are still little local papers with good news and interesting articles, fortunately.

I used to cut and send to an old boyfriend articles of interest to him while he was working in morocco...he truly enjoyed that....I can't remember the last time I read a newspaper....too much doom and gloom and the news is not really news any more it's what the corporate bigwigs deem news and with their spin on it.  What a shame

Yes, I can relate to what you feel, Pat. Not just the newspaper, but even books and magzines have all nearly went to the internet. A fine entry.

excellent post. I think I would have enjoyed writing for a paper.

It was less distracting, with no cell phones, texting, constant input. Remember when they didn't have to warn you to turn off your cell phone before the movie started?

You certainly earned your money in those days Pat. I remember in the pay offices supportive of several regiments, operators banging away on calculating machines to determine a soldiers next week pay. All the new recruits had large sheets of card with all their particulars recorded and opening and is going to say pay cheque, but they were all paid in cash. 2244819 Lance Cpl Bartlett. One had to walk to a desk and salute and receive comments from some miserable old sergeant. Come on Bartlett, you are like an old hen.
