Re: Re: I agree here with much of what you say.
That is a great analogy, and reminds me of something in a little book about the Japanese internment camp, revisited by a Japanese American woman, as an adult. She remembers her father who was a fisherman, going out into the Pacific every day, to fish. He was hauled in by the US authorities and accused of going out to meet Japanese subs, and giving them information. They demanded to know whose side he was on. Her father said that he felt like a child whose mother and father are fighting: he loves them both and just wants them to stop.

Howdy, Bright! Long time, no hear from! Thanks, I just wrote what I felt about this election. And "terror" is definitely the right word to describe what my wife and I went through. But, we got through it! Hopefully that was a "once in a lifetime" experience!

Thanks, Straight. Perhaps that was a nickel's worth! That's okay . . . I think I have a few more cents to spare. Not much anymore, but a few . . .

Re:
What's really confusing to me sometimes, FSI, is that, many of the people in the Senate and Congress, who have been sniping at each other, sitting on their hands and getting almost nothing done, are incumbants who have been re-elected to continue to snipe at each other and sit on their hands. I can't blame these people anymore, since John & Jane Q. Public keep putting these people in those positions! We had the power to vote them out, and yet we didn't! You put a gun in a chimp's hand, and he shoots someone, you don't blame the chimp!

Re:
See, mariss? It's nice sometimes to be on the same page with someone else, isn't it? There's a little quip I throw out from time to time whenever I hear or read about some new proposal, some new law recommendation, a different approach to some of our problems, that don't appear to help anyone except a very small, select group. And that is "logic prevails." Of course, I say it with extreme sarcasm each and every time!

I heard that too, luster, and he's right. That's why I said that it probably didn't matter who won this election. As long as Congress remains so unbelievably divided, we're just going to continue to slide further and further down the road to absolute ruin. No one could have saved the sinking Titanic by simply plopping some chewed gum into the gaping hole!

Thanks, Wiley. We're very happy about it too! However, I suppose getting the president and congress together to get anything accomplished today is probably akin to getting a mongoose and a rattlesnake to put aside their differences and not attack each other. And I hate to say it but, I think it's going to get worse before it gets better. I hope I'm wrong, of course.

Re: JimmyA
Me too, Justi. Yes, I feel extremely fortunate to have my wife. We were definitely each other's strength throughout that ordeal. And I believe what this country needs in the White House is not a single politician, but rather a group, a "think tank" if you will, made up of accountants, mathmeticians, historians, analysts, financiers, who can ignore political loyalties, sit down together with no divisions, and actually crunch the numbers to right the ship! Of course, that will never happen . . .

Yes, Kabu, to expound on Tiny Tim's sentiment . . . "God bless us all, everyone!" However, my cynical side has lead me down a path where I no longer believe that anyone can unite all of us completely, let alone the two parties. Individualism, that "It's mine . . . and I want it now!" or "I, and my 'group' are more important than you and your 'group'!" mentality, seems to rule the day for most people now. It's a shame sometimes.

Re:
Thanks, TAPS. I guess I could be considered somewhat of a "fence-sitter." I don't necessarily lean to the left or the right, nor would I give full, unconditional support to one party over the other simply out of misguided loyalty. To be perfectly honest, neither party impresses me all that much.

Re: I agree here with much of what you say.
I suppose, Ciel, that a good analogy would be looking at the two parties as a mother and father who have patently different ideals on how to raise the children, and are constantly clashing. Meanwhile, the children, with no real direction or leader, flounder in their daily struggle for survival, hoping the two will finally come together and make decisions that benefit everyone. Is that close?

Hi There - You showed good insight into the politics of this confusing set of lead ups to the election.
I'm glad to know you and your wife have fought your way through all the terror and heartache brought by ' Sandy'. Be well, stay warm and may blessings come your way!

I agree with your assessment of the election. Hopefully we can elect people in the presidency, house and senate who can work things out with one another.

I have had similar thoughts, and wish someone were together enough to come up with a real plan to improve things who the parties would nominate. I am not myself, but not running for the office, but can detect rhetoric vs. real usually. There is some solace in others having similar thoughts. Thanks. Maybe they should have let Cain have questionable character and see if any real plan would work.

Great writing on the politics down there my friend and for the sake of the world I hope the country/people can make congress and the presidency get together and do the right things. We are really happy you have your house up ad running my friend.

Thank you for this very honest and thought provoking post. I believe one of the most important things I saw was that too few people have been in business, worked directly for owners and knew that there is no possible way this can work under this man. Romney was not good as really telling you how he could do it, but he could have. He is a born entrepreneur and that is what this country needs right now more than anything else. One who does not see that raising taxes will do nothing, is blind. You can only get so much tax, until no one has anything left to give.
There are just too many cover ups right now and lots of blatant things are wrong, but I honestly think too many people do not mind not having a job.
It is such a joy to see that the two of you have such a lovely and loving relationship to be able to huddle up in the house without power for eight days. I am thankful for that sort of relationship, but far too many would have lost it in your condition. I am glad you have power.

I agree here with much of what you say.
Maybe all of it--have to give it further thought.
But I agree totally that the 2-party system has become so intensely polarized, that it seems the vast majority never consider thinking what benefits any but their party, and this is entirely detrimental to the benefit and the functioning of this country.
I am impressed with any politician who can make the leap. I will be keeping an eye on Chris Christie, and Dick Luger, as Republicans I could vote for.
