Re: Wouldn't it have been even better if you took her aside and told her

She was pretty distraught and probably had a gun in her pocket to shoot old busy-body ladies.

Wouldn't it have been even better if you took her aside and told her

politely how you felt about it all. Perhaps it's the only way she knows and this may be related to her own upbringing. Or who knows what? What say, TAPS?

Hi .. Observing the animals can be such fun but I have a neighbor with a young pit bull that she often lets run loose and friendly as the puppy can be -- it never seemed to miss the chance to jump on my white jeans with it's dusty or muddy paws.

{Dogs show personalities of their own. Yesterday I saw a white bobbing Irish terrier in somebody’s rear window of their car. It turned out to be a real dog. The dog bobbed it’s head. It wore a cloth collar. BC-A, Bill’s R®st

I got carried away with the dog incident and forgot to tell you that I do appreciate your posting this because I was concerned about your being in that, what looked like, empty place. You are a brave lady and I thought you might have gone a bit too far. Thanks.

The actions lacking in this woman's relationship, or lack thereof, with her dog is so akin to what I see often between parents and children. It is so strange to see parents either totally ignoring their children or screaming at them as if they were not little people so in need of loving correction.

Adnor is right, it quickly becomes obvious to the dog owner that something is wrong, the obvious answer is a trainer or at least a competent book on the matter.

dogs are like children, they push and push if the owner doesnt put a stop to it.  When my daughter and I walk our little guys there is always so many big dogs out with owners and so well behaved.  Just like children they have a tendency to get on ones nerves

What a waste of dog. If the lady would take the time to go to a good trainer, she and her pet would enjoy each other; those kind of things wouldn't happen. I don't think I would have been able to go by without saying something....

I get really upset when I see people mishandling their dogs (as opposed to mistreating them, which is a different and completely inexcusable matter). Sometimes a few carefully chosen words help, but not always. Luckily, I haven't encountered too much of that sort of thing...

Women who yell at their dogs were no doubt yelled at by parents

who didn't understand the rudiments of house training. I'm with you. I hope the poor creature was adopted by good people. :)

It is one thing to let a house cat become very spoilt but an animal that is

running loose is a danger to itself and others. besides even spoilt house cat has some absolute No activities like being a pest when we eat, or breaking things or not using the potty.

So many doggy smells, probably as well Taps, no where for dogs to pee except on our doorsteps round here. All carry little poo bags I suppose a nappy would be too messy. Your woods still give me the shivers, but you have known them for a fair time and carry that stick with a sharp sword in the end hopefully. Safer to walk with your gentleman friend.

my dog-trainer daughter agrees:

She spends most of her training sessions teaching the human to communicate with their dog, not merely getting the dog to obey commands.

I see often the owner having trouble walking the dog when I go on the trail near my house. What you described is a familiar scene...I like observing the animals in nature as well.
