Re: So good to hear that all is not so bad with you all. And so nice of you to
Thank you, Straight. I'm hoping to get another update out tonight. I guess it's all a matter of perspective. Many people have suffered worse than us. All we can do at this point is take it one day at a time!

Re:
Thanks, C C T. And you're absolutely right. The trees that did not come down are also huge . . . and within only a few yards of the house! Another tremendous storm like this, and we may not be so lucky! However, since this is my wife's childhood home that she inherited, and since her father planted those trees over 60 years ago, I know how reluctant she would be to take them down, even if it meant saving the house! It will be a tough call.

Re: Jimmy A
Thanks, Bill. Trees and other items can be replaced . . . life cannot. We're hangin' in there!

Re: JimmyA
Thank you, Justi. Yes, as bad as it was, it definitely could have been worse. As long as we're safe and unharmed, everything else at this point is just an inconvienence. But my wife and I are both a couple of tough Pollocks, and it will take a hell of a lot more than that to bring us down!

Re:
I hope so, TAPS. Yes, that was the scariest thing we had ever gone through. But as bad as it was for us, there are many who suffered even worse fates. Whole houses were lost in some areas, and others may not have power for months! Sandy really smacked us around, but we're still standing!

Re:
Thanks so much, Utah. You're right . . . the loss of life would have been catastrophic of course, but even the loss of the trees was heartbreaking as well. My wife's father planted those trees almost 60 years ago, and my wife was actually in tears seeing them come down. Seeing how the wind was blowing, she really expected to lose them all. But losing 8 was tough enough. Time to replant!

Re: so glad to hear from you,
Thanks, Ciel. Actually, a "total mess" doesn't really begin to describe it! Day by day, we're picking up the pieces, trying to get back to some type of normalcy. Our biggest concern right now is a lack of power, and with falling temperatures, it's going to get tougher! But, we're hanging in there . . . !

Re:
Yes, it is, mariss. My wife and I are fortunate to live on a block where, Tuesday morning right after the storm, everyone was out in the street checking on each other, talking to each other, seeing who may have needed some help. I can only hope that my wife and I never have to go through something like that ever again!

I hope so too, luster. Right now it's hard to say because there are many people who suffered worse fates than us. It will be a slow recovery, but we're hangin' tough! Thanks for the well-wishes!

Re:
I'm just glad, adnohr, that I was able to get access to a computer at all to give any updates. Yes, it was extremely scary, nothing either my wife nor I had ever gone through before! Trees are down, a few are still "leaning," the yard is a disaster area, we still have no power . . . but we're both okay ( as are the kitties! ). We're hanging in there!

Re:
Yeah, FSI, the loss of the trees was one thing, but loss of life would have been something else entirely. Thanks for the well-wishes!

I would certainly think about lopping those other trees Jimmy not only that they ruin the foundations. I love trees but like them a distance away to be on the safe side.Hopefully it won't happen again a bit too hairy. You are safe that's what matters.

What an experience for you. I can't imagine what that must have been like. Hopefully the worst is over and your situation will get a little better every day and soon be back to normal.

My prayers go with you guys. I know this is minimal, but I know how much a tree can be missed. Best of luck to you.

I am glad you made it through something that harrowing. You gave a fine description of it. I have been in ice storms and could hear the trees cracking and falling. Thanks for the update.
Good to have great neighbors!

Wow! That was some experience!! I had trees come down too, but none of them hit the house. Lost power only for the night, it was back on for coffee time in the morning. As you say, the important thing is that you are both ok (and the kitties!) - still it is a scary thing to go through.
Thanks for letting us know!
