I like the metaphor of comparing her to a rainbow...The second is quite the emotional contradiction to the first.

These two are extremely good, even for you.  The second one gives a very clear insight into a fragment of war life

Re: Oh, my, not bad enough with war and the blitz,

I suppose it seemed a small pain when folk were being killed daily Pat. Never mind the teacher is a rainbow now.

Re:

There have always been abusive teachers Adnohr little dictators with their swishy canes.

Even my Grampy had to go and threaten one with a good hiding if he ever touched any of his boys again. He didn't. A bit too much the other way now probably, kids attack the teachers.

that first poem is so gentle ...a heart melter, and the second...a

heart breaker.

Both excellent in its own way! That teacher would be up for child abuse in present day!!

Oh, my, not bad enough with war and the blitz,

we've got to have a sadistic teacher with a metal-edged ruler. It was that adversity we had to overcome, and being able to write it so clearly readers could see it is a triumph. I loved the rainbow. As Taps says, two entirely different places in the mind.

The first is so pleasant, the second so sad.
What a combo.  But, that's the way life is--up one minute and down the next.
