I loved this but I must tell you that I have the flu and am wondering if the lard would come in handy in my tropical paradise! Poor Mother Hubbard - just so tired!

Re: Your cadence and verses sometimes remind me of my favorite

Thank you Pat it could have been tightened up a bit, but I felt weary.

Re: adnhor

Nursery tales are a bit cruel Adnohr, but I expect it was the conditions of that age.Black Death ring a ring of roses when you blow your noses atishoo, atishoo, all fall down.

Re:

I know Taps the remedies sound a bit barbaric these days . a womam told me her Mum plastered the kids with goose grease pulled on a vest and they had to keep it on all Winter, yes the same vest .

Re: Sounds like I was yesterday, outside too much and today I slept most

Goodness Kabu I should think not, I forgot a pill and was trying to put together a theme for a book and eventually thought of one as I woke .

Sounds like I was yesterday, outside too much and today I slept most

of the day. Ah well I will stay up late and catch up. Take care, don't let your cupboard get bare, nor let anyone dare put you in a home.

Several things in your poem remind me of my childhood.
Mom used the lard in making biscuits and piecrust.
She used a combo of goose grease and linement to rub on our chests when we were congested.
She gave us chicken broth with lots of garlic in it when we were ill.
She gave us big spoonsful of cod-liver oil to keep us healthy (nasty stuff)
and she made us senna-leaf tea if she thought we needed a purgative.
There were times when I thought she was trying to kill me even though I knew she loved me.

Hmmm - dodging her responsabilities, huh?  Well, if she did it for dogs, why would children be any different?? Definitely a new twist on the nursery tale!
