The best 'revenge' would be to give the most unsympathetic female character in your novel that woman's name...

Well I suppose she had to say something Clara, Martha, Ada, No I can't see these ladies taking flight. I cannot see anything wrong with your choice.

What a pain she was, just go with your own names they always seem to fit when you've written them yourself.

i like Evie if Evelyn is regarded as old fashioned . Named evelyn but known

as Evie but i find if my chatacter has named themselves then that is who they are and i can't change them.

I like Evelyn - especially the Evie. Looks like that your 'Ethel' and my 'Ethel' from a couple of days ago are similar - can you imagine their chit chat over coffee??

My daughter used to work with a woman... an older woman, at that,

named Evan.  As a woman's name, it conveys just the opposite of old-fashioned, and could be feminized a touch, without losing that.  If you use it, it gives you more playground, so to speak, in defining-by-suggestion her personal balance of male/female energies.

I rarely read much into character names, though I appreciate ones that have an 'appropriate' sound to them, in the context of the story.  Dickens, of course, was a master of naming with pertinance and sometimes, very little subtlety:  Mr Macawber... Uriah Heep....
