Fourteen is a very difficult age. I am dealing with it right now with my kids but not to that extent. Thanks for sharing.

Fourteen is a tough age. I just happened to have a
conversation about that with my grandson when he turned fourteen, about how confusing it was for me when I was that age, how one minute I wanted to be a grownup and the next a kid, and Mom either treated me like an infant or expected me to be more mature, usually at opposite times. Sometimes I'd just take off for the deep woods all day. He sat down and started talking to me, was still going two hours later. Sometimes an understanding non-parent can help a kid like himself a little better.

I worked with street kids for 4 years, and have seen it happen to other families. You are right - if the father doesn't agree to family counselling as opposed to child counselling, there is a very good chance he will lose his son. A pity.
