You are a kind lady Pat. You have had to harden your heart or you would have been trodden on. I think it was beautiful how you responded in the end. not many would have been so gracious and a lovely poem.

Hospice workers - the tender loving care hospice offers -
I cannot say enough about how wonderful they are to be there for family and for the one in need of their help. Dear ones, friends who knew the grim reaper was on his way, found courage in knowing they would not be alone, would not suffer needlessly. My friend Mel, who was a co-worker, knew his lung cancer was terminal. When I said I was going to miss him, he almost cried with relief to find someone he could be honest with. I asked what I could do, and he told me when he was gone his wife was going to need my help. Promise me you'll be there if she asks, he said, knowing she was "difficult" and that I wasn't her fan. I said I would, and in fact I did stand by her when I was needed.
This poem is one I cannot share with my children -- at least not yet. Thank you so much for all your thoughtful comments.

I have so much respect for hospice workers. I've never had a complaint about any of them that I have known while working as a nurse, or have worked with any of my loved ones. God bless them everyone.

I worked in hospice care and for me it was really wonderful work. Not so
sad, lots of people improved for a time with our care and when it was time it was all made easier for the family with the experts there to help.
Me, I want to just take a walk in the snow on the day that I know.

Re: Ciel I think there's more to say of hospice--
You're right of course, Ciel, but this was my experience. Original title for the poem was "Safe Passage."

Wow. Deep, and the truth for many. But I want to go out with a bang.

I think there's more to say of hospice--
regarding that for some,at least, caring hospice workers make something more of dying and death than mere pain-eased departure.
