That sounds very inefficient.  I think some things are too vital to be left in the hands of private industry

Re: WileyJohn

It will hike something.  It will be interesting to see how the owners will handle it.

Re: Justi

Kansas City has had so much trouble with broken water mains that they have run out of money for fixing them.  Two years ago when the one happened in front of Son's house and caused the tree to fall and tore up his yard, the city sent out an inspector to check the damage and then payed him several thousand dollars.  But, this year the city announced that it would no longer do that.  They said that any water main that breaks on any private property, or any damage to private property from breaks on city property will have to be paid for by property owners.  This one broke on the property of the apartment complex so their insurance will have to cover it.  Anything not covered by their insurance will have to be absorbed in some way.

I am so sorry. Why do the people have to pay for the pipes that belong to Kansas City and not their own. Do these pipes belong to the complex? How?

now it seems since they know there is these problems they should fix them before they break, or would that be to much to take on for a city?

I wonder if anybody called 911 - or at least the city utilities dept.

Sometimes each person thinks someone else must have called.  One reason so many underground lines are breaking - according to my son the plumber - is the drought has gotten so deep and the soil is so dry it shrinks away from the pipes it used to support, and weight of soil above, time itself that makes iron pipes brittle, and rust, and the metal gives way to the pressure. It's been a widespread problem in this area too.

I hope tomorrow is a bit quieter, and I hope they don't make too big of a mess when they come to repair. Wishing you luck.

Re: Naut

It already has.  It has knocked a big hole in the wall of the basement apartments and I assume they are now flooded and the city has still not come to turn off the water.

That doesn't look good! And if this water is also squeezing in all directions underground, it may very much affect the foundation of that house as well...

Wow, that is wildly awesome, TAPS!

Infrastructure is falling apart across the country it seems...All the utilities except gas are privatized now in my town which means we get nice fee hikes on a regular basis and poor service - can't vote the companies out of business yet we the public didn't vote them in either. And the offices that did are allowed to keep the hows and whys of their decision under wraps so we are clueless..sigh, sorry, lol.  Hope this gets fixed soon and I feel for those on a fixed income..

That is really wild looking!  Hope they got it turned off fairly soon.

First dry as all get out, then the complete opposite - too much water. I hope they get it fixed without too much delay, TAPS, and that the expense is not too high.
