Re:

Your quite welcome, Annicita. I know a lot of people who generally remember Rowan & Martin's Laugh-In, but not that particular sketch. It's amazing sometimes what sticks in people's heads, even after 40 years! Like I wrote, I've been using that line for many, many years, and I have yet to have anyone admit that they knew exactly where that came from or what it meant! That's okay. I know!

Re: Jimmy

It is that, Naut, but like many of my "lines," I picked it up at some point and use it whenever the situation seems appropriate. I like to use certain quips from the Marx Brothers and Abbott & Costello, TV shows like The Odd Couple and The Honeymooners, and from stand-ups like George Carlin and Bill Cosby. I have hundreds that float around in my head, and like I said, when a certain situation calls for it, out they come! I do have a few of my own, but the situation has to be perfect for them to come out! It almost never is!

Jimmy

I wouldn't have known its origins, but I like it; I would have thought it was simply a funny bit of nonsense, which it is...

Re:

And I don't suppose, Utah, that you could have taken them with you! Not in those days, before hand-held electronic devices like we have today. However, some of their humor might have been a welcome respite to any of the anxiety that may have arisen in those seas!

Re: I knew what you meant the first time you left that comment at my post

See, Kabu? You get it! Not everyone can completely understand what everyone else means in their writings. Like I wrote, it's just a humorous way of more or less saying "What the heck are you talking about?" Sometimes glimpses inside someone's head can be like a visit to a bakery . . . you have an idea of what you want, but with so many choices, one can become easily baffled!

Re: JimmyA

Well, Wiley, I try not to use it too often, but like I wrote, when I do, it's in fun and jest. And hey, sometimes donuts and beer actually go together, and that can confuse the hell out of anyone!

I always like the pair, they hit the scene just as I was becoming aware of the world around me...Then off to the pacifc and the beaches of th south china sea.

I knew what you meant the first time you left that comment at my post

Sometimes what I write is meant to amuse, confuse, or just let my friends have a glimpse inside my head. In which case staying near that annoying bakery is probably a safe place to beLOL.

JimmyA

Sure, I understand perfectly but have never seen it in my blogs. Likely I would have said are you sure you're in the bakery and not the bar?LOL

Re:

That's probably true, TAPS. And I had a strong feeling that the reference was fairly obscure, but that's what makes them fun. It's like anything else . . . some things ya get, some things ya don't! But like I wrote, I've been using that line for years!

One dozen white rolls, coming right up, adnohr! What, no pie or cake?

Re:

Perhaps, luster, perhaps. I try not to use it too often. And you're right . . . if you never see it in your comments, that is indeed a "good thing." At least for me . . .

Re:

Hmmm, where did that one come from, FSI? Yeah, those damned Orioles are keeping pace with my Yankees, but at least it keeps it interesting. And by the way, I really wouldn't consider that as an "old saying," unless you consider it as just my old saying! I don't know anyone else who has ever used that particular line!

Re: So I had to scan back through my comments

Thanks, Katray. That's what I was pretty much trying to convey. It's just a humorous way for me to say "I'm sorry . . . I don't fully understand what you're saying." And hey, if we can't laugh at ourselves, who will? ( don't answer that! )

You gave me at least one of those.  I did not associate it with Rowan and Martin because I seldom had opportunity to watch them.  In those days we had one TV in the whole house and it was the man of the house (hubby) who chose the programs whenever he was home.  When he wasn't home, one of the four sons picked the channel.  Mom was either cooking, doing dishes, or reading a good book.

If you get lost at the bakery for any of my posts, could you pick me up a dozen white rolls, please?

It's neat to read where old sayings came from...As a non-related aside, The AL East race is sure exciting.

So I had to scan back through my comments

to see if you had gotten lost on any of my posts, lol.  I don't remember that line but it is a good one so long as it is received in the same spirit as it is given. And I think most of us here enjoy humor and can laugh at ourselves too.
