Re: have a wonderful visit and Happy Birthday and Congratulations on being 90.
Kabu, thanks! the fires in Colorado are out, for the time being. But those in the Northwest, it's pretty terrible there, and looks like it will go on for a while yet.

Re: It still distresses me to think of fires in the forests of your beautiful
Pat, it is fascinating to visit the burn areas now, and see what survives, and what comes back almost immediately.
And it helps a lot to recognize how much a part of the natural cycle, is fire--not only natural, but in some cases, necessary.
Still, it hurts to see what was beautiful, uplifting and soothing, gone.

What you need, TAPS,
is a really big print of some of those aspens and the mountain behind them... to post up on your window, to look at when the sun is shining through!

It still distresses me to think of fires in the forests of your beautiful
state, and Washington/Oregon/Idaho too. I always fear for the critters, as well as the trees. I hope you have a wonderful visit with your mom and sis - How lovely that she's 90 and still with it. :)

At your first mention of Estes Park, the urge hit me to turn around and look out the window at Longs Peak and golden aspens between here and there. That was just a flash for I immediately realized that what I would see behind me was the parking lot and the next building of the complex and some still green oak trees and barely browning sycamores.
