You're right, of course. We do need some sadness in our life, as long as it doesn't become the constant thing. Lovely poems.

Embrace it. Weep, and then let it go.

Praying and giving are best for such times.  Only a strange one could be happy about these incidents.  Fun diversions help when the mood lightens enough to do something else.  Then there is more to give when something else hits.

I spent most of life in the exact opposite, so now I must work extra hard. In the last twenty years I have spent helping the disabled, and so far over 400 dollars to food bank for aluminum cans left in my containers. Be blessed my friend, I have changed since I was young and foolish.

Re: Ciel

With enough affirming flames
a difference could be made.
Thank you.

Defenseless under the night
Our world in stupor lies
Yet dotted everywhere,
Ironic points of light flash out
Wherever the Just exchange their messages.

May I, composed like them
Of Eros and of dust,
Beleaguered by the same
Negation and despair
Show an affirming flame.

Now and then, when the pain of the world gets to me, I try to remember these words of Auden.

A sweet little poem Taps I hope it never happens of course. One would have to be deaf and immune to suffering, to escape the awful condition of the world today. I suppose it has always been the same, but those who were not aware were not subject to reality when we just learned of incidents from newspapers. .
