That's actually pretty amazing, shobana! I didn't mind smacking a $15 shredder, but I think I might be hesitant to smack a $1,500 computer! Glad you got yours going again!

Perhaps, lion. Will a "dirty look" work just as well, or does the threat need to be verbal?

Re: JimmyA
Was that all it was, Wiley? Hmmm . . . I don't think I'd be able to open a machine repair shop with those credentials! "I can fix anything . . . one good bash . . . no waiting!" No, I think I just got lucky.

Re: Interesting..:)
I believe that, Katray, may have been a case of the "bashing" working too well! I can't even imagine how annoying it was for the horn to be going off Helter Skelter like that! Yeah, if it can't be repaired, then it's time to move on. Oh, and it might be time to put some ice on that hand . . .!

Re:
That's true too, Utah. Sometimes a "good bash" will make a bad situation worse. But if the apparatus or particular piece of machinery in question wasn't going to work anyway, then no amount of bashing will make any difference. "Planned Obsolescence" . . . that's what the retailers and manufacturers want anyway!

See, Kabu? I'm glad I'm not the only one. And I think your BIL probably choked because he was so surprised that it actually worked! I hope you didn't tear or ruin your Sylvester slippers!

I think, Ciel, that may have been a crowded school! So, some people will injure their hands, while some will injure their feet . . .

I know, Annicita. If only it was that easy! Think of all of the repair bills people could save on!

As a professional IT support technician I have to advocate the use of violence when it comes to computers - sometimes just the threat of it will make them work again

So your whack smacked the safety switch into clicking on between the machine and the shredder bucket. Blimey mate, jolly good work.

Interesting..:)
While driving an old car years ago, I beat on the steering really really hard because someone was carelessly pulling out in front of me and the horn refused to work. Well, it started working again; boy did it ever..would go off and on with no touch, rhyme or reason after that thumpin'. Weird and embarrassing, lol. I was so glad when I finally got rid of that stubborn mule! And my hand still hurts to this day.

It usually works for me too, but there are times when it never works again as well.

of course she was most wise. I once had a dishwasher in a kitchen that
at a certain part of the cycle it would just stop.I would walk out into the kitchen usually in my Silvester the cat slippers and give it a good kick in a certain place....and it would finish off its job. Mind you the first time my BIL saw this I remember that he choked and spilled his coffee......

Re:
Sure, Sam. And usually, one of two things will happen. Either you get the machine or apparatus to work again, or you end up simply replacing it, and put some ice on your sore hand!

I like Grandma's method there a lot. I've used it a time or two myself.
