Re:

They sure did, shobana! I suppose some people might think that a "seafood" restaurant wouldn't be able to serve a delicious chicken dinner, but such was not the case!

The chicken does sound tasty and am glad your parents enjoyed it too.

Re: Jimmy

I guess, Naut, chicken in a fish place, fish in a chicken place . . . almost makes it pointless to even specify the restaurant as a "chicken" place or a "fish" place. They usually say something like "Specializes in . . . " But I must admit, years ago the wings with hot sauce and beer combo would have been a delight for me. But now, my "system" would probably not enjoy them as much! Once you reach that second plateau, you've got to take it easy on yourself! A nice salad and a glass of iced tea is more to my liking now ( yeah, I'm a wimp . . . but a healthy wimp! )

Jimmy

They were certainly nice to open early for you! As to your choice of chicken in a seafood restaurant - I would choose fish in a chicken restaurant, if there is such a thing, although I would probably enter there only if someone dragged me there in the first place...Mind you, I will occasionally eat wings with hot sauce, and of course plenty of beer...

Re:

Sure, luster. I can't see any restaurant trying to "force" someone to order something that was more to the style of the restaurant. Freedom of choice . . . yay!

to me if I wanted sea food that is what I would get

Re: JimmyA

Me too, Wiley. It is very, very rare that I would find it necessary to agonize over my choices on a menu . . . any menu. However, I have gotten into the habit of having a second choice ready, just in case my first choice is unavailable, which is also rare.

Re: sure if it is on the menu then of course why not and I am glad that

Yes, Kabu, that was very nice of her. It wasn't as if we were hours early, just twenty minutes. And believe it or not, for a restaurant that was primarily seafood, that chicken-in-a-basket dinner was delicious!

Good on ya, I'm usually a quick picker in a restaurant too, have a happy weekend.

she had the common sense to open early for you.

Re:

Absolutely, Annicita. We really appreciated that aspect of the situation. Technically, they didn't have to open for us at that point, but did anyway. Yeah, those are the types of things that keep you going back to such places ( even if you do order the chicken instead of any seafood! )

Re:

Sure, FSI. The bottom line is . . . and always has been . . . satisfying your own particular taste, regardless of what type of restaurant you're in. That's why I emphasized, if it's on the menu . . . !

Re:

Of course, Utah! Everything usually comes down to money, but the reaction of the waitress is what made this particular tale worth retelling. She actually seemed very surprised that we were ordering chicken in a seafood restaurant!

Re:

Actually, C C T, I have had the fish & chips dinner that this same restaurant offered, and it was really, really good. But on that particular day, the chicken just sounded better!

Re: When it's what you want, it's what you want!

Me too, Ciel. I've discovered many wonderful new dishes by sampling other people's choices. And you're right . . . if it's what you want, it's what you want!

Re:

I never thought of that, TAPS, but you're probably right! Especially when you have a lot of wonderful choices . . .!

i think it was wonderful of them to open early so that your dad wouldnt have to walk back down and then back up again....now thats customer service!

That's how I am when it comes to the menu even if the "theme" of the place emphasizes different types (steak, chicken, seafood, etc.).

I don't think they care so much what you order, it's the paying they are interested in.

Well I might have had the same Jimmy  and a bag of fish and chips for supper if I had been your age.

When it's what you want, it's what you want!

I'm sure the fish would have been delicious, too. I like it when everyone orders something everyone wants to taste, and trades around.

Looking at a good menu is almost as much fun as eating the food.
