Re:
Well, mariss, like I wrote, choosing just one event would prove difficult for many people, but yours is a good choice as well. Yes, it would be nice, at this stage of our lives, to live in a "terror-free" world. And if we knew then what we know now, 9/11 would definitely have been avoided, as well as this long, drawn-out war in Afghanistan. I know I would be able to sing and dance a little more freely at these "parties" knowing that a beheading is NOT forthcoming!

Of course you did, Kabu, and that should never be changed!

Re:
It's okay, adnohr. I seem to be getting a myriad of responses anyway, ranging from specific events to complete abstinence. But hey, if it got a bunch of us thinking and considering, stimulating the ol' grey matter, then it was worth it! Always fun to ponder . . .

Re:
I suppose, Utah, that I ( and anyone else who may have pondered this query ) never really considered the "domino effect" of such actions. In doing something that you feel may be helping someone, one might inadvertently cause irreparable damage somewhere else along the space/time continuum, affecting many others. I guess it would turn into a tricky tightrope balancing act, one that probably no mortal should be able to control. Yeah, I like you and everyone else as they are too. Okay, let's not take any chances and try to change anything!

Re: JimmyA
That's a very good of looking at it, Wiley, and you're probably right. Perhaps it was somewhat megalomaniacal of me to consider such a venture, but my heart was in the right place. My only concern was to see if someway, the suffering of others could have somehow been averted. But I guess certain things happened for a reason, and our course had already been set. Still interesting to ponder though . . .

The world pays when dark practices are allowed, and/or the countries who practice them. Recent History, I would have focused the terror wars in Afghanistan instead of Iraq and crushed the Taliban early on, with the objective they not rise again. The war would not have gone on so long. If it had succeded, people could sing and dance at their parties without being beheaded and the U.S. might be under less threat.

An exellent post and I can't think of anything I would have changed. That is man's problem, he is always trying to change history, or trying to be remembered in history after he dies, or writing a history that affects only one thing or country or politics or religious belief.I think every day that God knows exactly what to do and what not to do, and he's left man to arrive courageously at his own individual life and its conclusion.

Re:
It's a tough one I know, FSI! And I guess I shouldn't have stipulated that it be a "historical" event. It really could have been any event in the past that affected anyone of your choosing. I just assumed that many would lean towards events or occurences that affected large amounts of people. It's still difficult to ponder or choose!

Re:
A very good choice too, Annicita, and I completely understand your rationale for choosing it as well. When many people are forced to suffer under one person's hand . . . something needed to be done! By the way, have you tried to enlarge the type yourself from your own computer yet? I was just curious if that had worked for you or not!

Re: You brought this huge lump to my breast as I read this post....
I know I made this somewhat difficult, Kabu, by forcing people to only choose one event! That's why I leaned toward something that may have had a domino effect, where many, many people were affected over a long, long period of time. Your choice would probably be welcomed to the pages of history as well, because it too will affect many, many people over a long period of time. It's fun to speculate sometimes, isn't it? I'm glad this post sparked some emotion in you.

Perhaps, luster. But isn't there at least one thing you might want to change, if you could? It could make a big difference to a lot of people!

For me I cannot choose one. I would be thinking of the people that I did not choose to help.

You brought this huge lump to my breast as I read this post....
your desire is as worthy as anything that I can think of...and for all the reasons that you have given. It is impossible for me to know what it is like to be black in America.
I am sitting here trying to rearrange the world.....I am thinking to go back to the very beginning, thousands of years ago with the knowlege and the ability to produce antibiotics and the importance of cleanliness when working with the sick, the wounded and for women in labour. I could live without most modern conveniences but not with out antibiotics.
