Re: Re: Re: true and by the time we are getting close to getting it right,

I'm spending my maturity learning by mistake the stuff my parents tried to teach me for free.  Well, I guess they did that, too.

I love this poem! One of my sayings is "mistakes are repeated until they are learned" Mistakes are fine, they are how we learn, and unless and until we learn the lessons our mistakes teach us we will continue to make the same mistakes over and over and over into the after life, if that's something one believes...

Of course, mistakes are teachers. Hmm - one would think I'd be brilliant by now!! Another good poem!

Re: Lion, thank you. The whole thing started off pretty prosy,

and then the image occurred to me from out of nowhere!  I wanted to write about the value of mistakes - and made a lot while doing it - but the result felt right.

Re: Right, it does look and sound a little strange, but "make is" would

put a bump in the rhythm that I didn't want.  Blame it on that Jewish Mother of a Muse I have.  She says hello, that you are meshugge,  and should go back into the rain.

Re:

Now I have made one it must be contagious It just jars on my hearing aid it seems like you are twisting the word into a possessive quality, why did I start this I could be walking about in the rain.

Re: true and by the time we are getting close to getting it right,

Whoa! And who's the umpire making calls?  If it's God, He has to have a sense of humor!

true and by the time we are getting close to getting it right,

it is time to up and die. LOL....

Exactly! And, nice pickup on the metaphor! I think of that poem in

Spoon River Anthology, where the deceased comments on the picture on his tombstone -a sailboat with furled sail.  He says it's an appropriate symbol for his life for reasons that those who buried him never intended.  To them it showed how his life ended, at peace at last after life's voyage.  But he knew differently - it pictured a boat that never took a chance, never even got to spread its sail and leave the harbor!  Mistakes are important.

In other words Bob, if I never made a mistake I would be a pretty dull guy.
