Re: I guess a lot of the works in modern watches consists of electronic

chips.. I'm sure they are fascinating in their own way, but I'm still awed by the insides of the older style watches with the gears and tiny spring!

This augments my fascination with watches. Amazing really, how time can be captured with their turning wheels.

Re:I didn't know that! Would you name a few? I'm interested!

What happens with me sometimes is that I get caught up in such a description and find that it quickly acquires a human connection - it becomes one half of a metaphor.  That happened a while back with a description of a lava lamp.  If the "thing" is interesting enough, you often find apt and surprising applications to people.

kThis type of fascination with the workings of a mechanical device inspired some 19th century writers. It works.BC-A, Bill’s R®st

Re: Good stuff!

Teddypoet, thank God that we both have kept our sense of wonder at such an achievement.  We truly stand on the shoulders of giants!!!

Re: Sorry, adnohr. It's our fate and responsibility as children of

the Industrial Revolution.

Re: Timeliness is it! Good one. No I've always been dumbfounded by

the tiny workings of a watch - what an accomplishment!!!  I almost think of a ballet dancer toe-spinning on a hard sharp jewel, and the rest of the innards doing what they do, all the time we're swimming, hammering, playing tennis!  It's beyond belief!  And now it's mass-produced!  That's all the science fiction I can handle!

Re: No, "collude" is the one I want - "work together, conspire." If

they collided, that would spell disaster for the purposes of the poem.

Oh yes - very nice. And now everytime I see a watch this poem is going to come to mind and turn it into a little miracle machine...

I don't believe that I have ever read this one Bob, however, I feel it quite timely placed when one stops to think about it. I was intrigued with the tip toe line, very descriptive.
