Re: The bridge has a rugged no-nonsense look. Wikipedia says it

was the model for the bridge in Sydney, Australia!

Yes - your description of the bridge calls for such a name. Amazing what man can create, and I guess beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

Re: Re: Thank you, Lion. The other two New York Bridges I wrote about -

the Brooklyn and the George Washington - have a completely different feel about them.  Characterizing them in verse was fun.

Re: You get a good view of it while you're driving on the Triboro

Bridge - the long approaches to the span itself rest on monstrous concrete pylons.  It's quite a sight.

Re: It;s an awful lot of bridge, and don't you love the name?

Being from the west, and never visiting New York I had to look up this massive red bridge...I like your view better Bob, but in any eye it is a wonder to behold.

Re: I like this! I can see it... feel how it feels to see it,

Ciel, it's imprinted in my childhood memories.  No sissy, the big bridge and its approaches filled the Astoria skyline when we visited my uncle John out there.  I loved watching the huge Pennsylvania Railroad locomotives horsing the freight cars across it.

Re: excellent descriptive lines.

Thank you.  It comes from the heart and childhood memories - Lionel Trains sold a version of it for its O-guage electric trains.  We could never afford it, but it was a classic.

I like this! I can see it... feel how it feels to see it,

I can see it... feel how it feels to see it, to be   part of the scene.
