We thought we had a woodpecker who diligently attacked one corner of the
house every morning, and several times a day. I got a good look at him, even took a photo... Not a woodpecker, it turns out, but a Northern Flicker. and not after bugs, but trying to attract a mate. They make as much noise as they can. Too bad we didn't have a stovepipe for him, he'd have liked that!

We have a lot of them here including the large size Pileated Woodpecker. We don't have to do anything about them, they get fed up going to the same place in time, don't let it worry you.

We had one recently who relentlessly pounded away on a nearby telephone pole! What a racket! I think it was a gang of squirrels who finally chased him off. They obviously couldn't stand the racket either!

Oh shucks, it probably doesn't know the damage it is causing.

Maybe the woodpecker will just move on (because your place doesn't have enough to eat). That would be a good thing.

They are peckers...
That's for sure. To top it off, some are protected species. One person suggested when they were attacking my house, that I "shoot, shovel and shut up." I just covered the areas they found an easy mark with Cedar trim and they stopped.

We have one who comes every spring like clock work and then leaves a few weeks later. I have enjoyed her visits, but I'm happy when she leaves.

I love them here. They come in the winter and eat on my suet feeders
and they hop all over the trees cleaning them of bugs. We don't get woodpeckers in Australia.

They sure are fun to watch and listen to. Can't you just let them tear up your house so you can have them for pets? Woody would be a good name for him.
