We didn't even have TV in the 50's because my Dad said if we had TV that no one would do their homework in the evening after he was off to work the 4 to 12 shift. Even after I got married in 1958, hubby and I didn't get TV until we had three preschoolers and I was expecting another. LOL. I don't remember an Indian. Maybe he was gone by the time we got one.

I think I recall the National Anthem late at night and the noise
(was born in the sixties and my childhood memories are fuzzy sometimes, lol) but don't remember the Indian. I did a Google search and found this on Wikipedia: The Indian Head Test Pattern was a black and white television test pattern which was introduced in 1939 by RCA of Harrison, New Jersey as a part of the RCA TK-1 Monoscope. Its name comes from the original art of a Native American featured on the card.
Interesting post!

Never saw the Indian in head dress, just the air force plane flying up, up in the wild blue; it may vary in different areas...these aliens are clever; you do really never know what form they will take.
