Well, Wiley, I don't think it was that kind of Italian restaurant! At least I hope it wasn't! I'd hate to think that my wife and I may have been in some kind of danger, especially if we had shown any displeasure with the food. Imagine if our forks were dirty . . .

I thank you for the nice compliment, Kabu, but I don't think a "foody blog" would quite be up my alley. I say that because to me, a food critic ( or at least someone who might recommend various places to eat ) is similar to a movie critic in that, they are simply giving their opinion. There have been plenty of movies over the years that were given four stars and two thumbs up that I thought were either terrible, or simply had no desire to see whatsoever. Then there were those movies that everyone "in the know" thought was horrible, that I thoroughly enjoyed. And I'm sure it would be the same for restaurants. Everyone has different tastes, different likings, different ideas on what would constitute a "fine dining experience," and places that I thought were wonderful may appear bland or generally undesirable to others, and vica versa. It's all speculative, and I wouldn't want to unintentionally steer anybody wrong! Interesting thought though!

I'm happy you lucked out and found a neat place to eat. My comment however is simply that I can't imagine anybody being so dumb as to complain about a meal in an Italian restaurant. "Hey, Tony come out here and have a little talk to this paisan, tell him what happens to complainers like him. Budda boom!!!' LOL

i think that you should write a foody blog on where to eat in out of the way places you write so well.

Re:
Yes, TAPS, unfortunately, that's the new reality we now have to face. I guess I shouldn't be surprised if one day, I read an article in the newspaper about some lunatic somewhere who went berserk and shot 12 people simply because their local Burger King was out of onion rings! It's terrible what can drive people over the edge these days! Brace yourself . . . !

Re:
That is so true, adnohr! Now, if you went into a Dunkin' Donuts and, for some reason, there were absolutely no donuts available, that would be one thing. It would almost seem preposterous to even open the store! But with all of the choices they have, if they were out of Boston Kreme, there would be nothing wrong with a good old-fashioned jelly donut! It's just not that important! People need to step back, get their priorities in order, and learn to appreciate what is available to them!

Yeah, I guess that's one way to look at it, Kabu. As for me and my wife, we both know how it feels to "go without," and are happy and thankful that we have the opportunity to occasionally go to any restaurant for a nice meal. We would never give any eatery a hard time in any way, shape or form simply because a certain dish was not available. Yes, that restaurant was indeed lovely and, as I wrote, we will definitely be going back! I hope those cupcakes are still available!

Re:
I am too, FSI, as my story illustrated. The only time I could possibly understand someone getting upset over a situation like that is if they had prepaid for something in particular, were promised that the item would be available, and then when they showed up, they were suddenly informed that there was an error, and the item wasn't available. I think we all may have been in that boat at least once, but certainly not in a restaurant!

Re:
Well, lutser, that's why I maintain that there are always choices, and even if you had your heart set on something in particular, it's just not worth the commotion if it isn't available. It's not as though stomping your feet and raising your voice will suddenly make that food item appear! I hope your daughter was able to calmly choose something else!

Re:
Exactly, Annicita! Each and every time my wife and I go into a restaurant . . . any restaurant . . . we always try to figure out a "second choice" just in case our first choice isn't available. It's not that difficult to do, and doesn't require a "scene!"

It wouldn't surprise me if they were afraid irate customers might be crazies packing heat. That's not so far-fetched these days.

Really! With people starving all over the world, we're most fortunate to have restaurants to feed us when we take the notion! I agree with you - there are more important things in life to get upset about!

I have seen a fair amount of people over the years react nastily to when a business does not have something available. Thankfully for them I am among those who understand.

I am afraid there are people like that, the other morning we all went to all you can eat breakfast and my daughter was making a fuss to the manager about there not being something there she wanted. Who knows I am not sure what that was all about
