Re:
That's true, FSI. One must be alert at all times! All it would have taken was for one car to have either hit the object in question, or go crazy trying to avoid it, to start the "domino effect!" I was glad neither was the case!

Re:
Me too, luster. Regardless of what may have been in the road, a possible 17 car pile-up was possible. And it would have been made much worse, in my opinion, if it had been a small dog as the cause of it all, because it would surely have been killed! Scary!

Re: JimmyA
Yeah, that's true too, Wiley. These are horrid times sometimes, and unfortunately, almost nothing surprises me anymore!

I've had a few objects go on the road that scared the crap out of me as well. One never knows what to expect on the open road.

Re:
Thanks, adnohr. Yeah, that's another possibility. I am both a big brother and a little brother, so I'm well aware of certain sibling rivalries. I guess in that scenario the silver lining is two-fold . . . it wasn't a dog, and the big brother threw out the little brother's back pack, and not the little brother!

Or maybe big brother threw little brother's pack out the window just because....
I agree with Wiley - well written - good suspense!

Re: JimmyA
I'm glad the suspense kept you "hooked," Wiley. No matter what, it was still a scary scene. And we'll never know what may have been inside that back pack! A bad report card? Perhaps. Or maybe his lunch that he told his mother he had actually eaten! I guess I'll just be thankful that it wasn't a puppy!

I was convinced it was a child, however, when I got to the end all I can say is I admire your writing skill at building up suspense. Probably a kid like I was with a bad report card in that backpack except we didn't carry those.

Re:
I can't blame you, TAPS. My heart was pounding enough, and I know it would have been much, much worse had it been an actual dog! No one wants to see something like that happen! It took me several miles to catch my breath and calm down!

Re: goodness me it could have been terrible with a dead puppy and a hundred car
Thanks, Kabu. Yes, I'm safe and sound, and you're right. It could have been worse! It could have actually been a puppy, and there could have been a hundred car pile up with who knows how many injuries. Because the people never slowed down or stopped, I'm going to go on the assumption that they weren't even aware something had fallen ( or been thrown out ) from the rear of their car. But it was still a scary scene!

I just hate things like that. It takes me forever to get over the fright.

goodness me it could have been terrible with a dead puppy and a hundred car
pile up. I wonder if a child threw out the back pack and the driver didn't see. I am thankful that our friend..that's you...is safe and sound.
