Re: Hey JimmyA!
Goodbye, Sam? Say it isn't so! Is this a temporary thing? Trying new things and then seeing if you want to return? Where am I going to find those funny images to write captions for? Well, regardless, whatever future endeavors are in your stars, I hope you remain well, and prosper! Thanks for all of the comments on my postings, and I hope you can come back!

Re:
You're welcome, mariss. I think that's one of the reasons we all may be here . . . to help, inspire and encourage one another. And I know you're probably right. I really didn't want to get involved with "alcohol" just to get some sleep. Hmmm . . . a buttered piece of bread dipped in olive oil. Believe it or not, my wife and I love warm bread dipped in olive oil ( we get it complimentary at some Italian restaurants near us ) but I don't know if it will help me get some sleep or not. Who knows? It probably couldn't hurt!

I would suggest find something better to encourage sleep than alchohol. A small piece of bread buttered with olive oil I Can't Believe It's Butter does it for me, although I do not know if that would benefit you at all. I have noticed a big difference when I am having trouble and I eat a slice. ps. Thanks for the encouraging comments on something I feel I must try, the Blogs.

Re:
Sometimes, adnohr, I guess you just have to surrender to certain conditions, especially physical ones. Others have suggested those afternoon naps as well, and I wish I could do that, even once in a while. Yeah, on those rare occasions when I actually do get a full 6 or 7 hours of uninterrupted sleep, it does kinda feel like a mini-vacation. I just wish I could get more of them!

I've slept those kind of hours for my whole life, alchohol or not. Now & then I'll get a 8 or 10 hour in, and it feels like vacation, LOL! I've tried everything, even have books on sleep, and nothing works. SO now I just go with the flow, grab an afternoon nappy when I can, and have quit frustrating myself by fighting it.

Re:
Well, luster, we have a cat that sleeps with us every night too, but I play with her a lot and kinda wear her out, so at least she sleeps through the night! I'm not familiar with Melatonin, but I might have to check it out. Thanks for the tip.

I still have the same issue having to get up and go potty but I take a Melatonin pill before going to bed, other than the potty break and the cat waking me I do good sleeping

Re:
Well, MakLee, that's what Kabu also suggested, and believe me, I would love nothing more than to take a quick "nana" in the middle of the day! But time and schedules just won't allow it. That glass of red may not be a bad thing either, but at this point, not really being a drinker, I'm just not sure what that amount of alcohol suddenly introduced into my system may do! See my dilemma? And I'm not going to try the old "warm milk" solution either, primarily because I love milk, and as far as I'm concerned, it should always be drank cold! Thanks for weighing in.

Re:
I'm not sure, Justi. It's really only been in the last 7 or 8 years that this trend has been going on. You may be right. It may not necessarily be the alcohol, but the other ingredients in the beverage itself they may not agree with me. The only thing that really bothers me on occasion is when I wake up so close to the time I was going to get up anyway. If my alarm is set for, say, 7:00 am, and I wake up at 3, I know I can go back to sleep for a few more hours. It's those 6:30 wake-ups that irk me!

Re:
That's okay, Sam. Like I wrote, I really don't drink either. I remember my parents telling me not too long ago that even their doctor weighed in on the benefits of at least one glass of wine a day. Not only was it good for the digestion, but it was also good to help increase blood flow and contained various cancer-killing antigens. However, it's been discovered that many of those same antigens can be found in chocolate! So, if I had a choice between a glass of Cold Duck and a Hershey's bar . . .

Re:
No, FSI, I didn't think there would be a blanket solution to sleep interruptions or deprivation. Some people, whether they drink or not, seem to have no trouble sleeping through the night, regardless. At least the pendulum hasn't swung in the complete opposite direction, and I don't have to bring up that "four-letter" word . . . insomnia! That, I'm sure, would be much worse!

Re: Two thoughts come to mind as an old Nurse.......
Well, Kabu, Gram may have been on to something! I guess you don't get to live to be 93 (?) through sheer ignorance! I don't think I would actually mind having a little drink of something before bedtime, but I wouldn't want it escalate and spiral out of control either! As for those afternoon naps, that does sound like a wonderful prescription, and I'm sure they're refreshing and would contribute to a good night's sleep. If only I had the time . . .

Re: JimmyA
No, my friend Wiley, I don't think I'll be doing that any time soon! LOL I know, that's how it starts. A glass here for this reason, a glass there for that reason. Believe me, I don't see myself heading down "that path" any time soon. I can respect your own personal battle ( regardless of how it may have started ), and I lived through it between my dad and one of my friends. I guess I should start thinking about another way to get a good night's sleep! Thanks for weighing in, and welcome back!

How does Champagne treat you. I think perhaps it would do the same it is the treatment of the product maybe. Check it out. I don't know that sleeping through the night as opposed to your normalcy is the better way. We differ each of us from the next person, that may just be your normal. If you feel good with it, don't rock the boat.

I do not drink, therefore, I do not have personal experience myself with it effecting my sleep, nor do I know how others do with it...

Two thoughts come to mind as an old Nurse.......
first is as we get older our systems sometimes work better with two sleeps, a two hour afternoon kip and 4-6 hours at night. As you say bladder for me it is Arthritis...i can ache too much to lie too long and have to get up....I do love that aftertnoon nap though.
Second is a glass of cold Duck in the evening before bed even ain't going to do you harm.
Why my darling Gram who lived to be 93???or more we are not sure because being a true lady she always lied about her age.... anyway always she drank a small glass of brandy before sleep. We kids were told that it was medicinal.....actually I believe perhaps it was. It helped her sleep and made her happy.

Enjoy a glass of whatever whenever you want, until the day comes which it probably won't that you tell YOURSELF that you have a drinking problem. I have experience you see, I'm a sober alcoholic of nearly 45 years and I had something to worry about, believe me. Pass a glass through your kidneys for me pard.
