Strong words and feelings, and probably true. Politics should not be influential to these games, but unfortunately it is. And that's a shame for the hard-working athletes who just wish to compete. Have a great ( and safe ) time in Europe, and do your best to put the concept of the "Ugly American" to rest!

I enjoy your wry commentary, Naut. It so often mirrors my thoughts.
I did think it was great fun to have the queen as the new Bond girl, parachuting into the arena. And I especially enjoyed little Mitt's triumphant entry in the foot-in-mouth competition. Have a great vacation. :)

Hope you'll have a wonderful trip. Oh, to answer your question, I read the Wind-up Bird Chronicle by Haruki Murakami. The story is good but it's a bit long-winded, then again it's really good. Now, another book I'm reading is the Angel's Game by Carlos Ruiz Zafon; which another book that I find myself easily lost in the story itself.
