Re:
thanks for all this info, I guess I will understand it more after they call him to let him know the amount. So if he goes with that 9% he cant ask for a settlement? I read how they break it down to get the settlement, but still am lost.

Workman's compsentation is an insurance that provides for medical treatment and wage replacement in exchange for a mandatory relinquishment of an employee to sue an employer! Social Security Disability is for those who are unable to work! The Government determines this on medical as well as people who know the applicant and their problem. It's a tough one to get though! And, the 9% disability may not be enough to aid his cause! I think disability is an umbrella term covering a host of ailments! All he can do is make application and hope for the best. Even if he is denied he can appeal the decision. If he is awarded the disability he will be reviewed at least every 2 years to see how the progress is coming along. The Government doesn't hand out permanent disability very often so he will have to prove his case over and over and over... I wish him all the best because a bad back is tough to deal with! My son had a bad back for many years dating back to a skiing accident in high school. He took up canoe racing which strengthened his lower back and now he is pain free and feeling great! If your son had been given exercises to do he should do them no matter how much it pains him because he will be better off in the long run! sam

Actually, you should probably consider yourself somewhat lucky that you were able to talk to a live human being, and didn't simply get the "run around" between phone calls and automated menus! Government agencies are usually extremely difficult to deal with! Best of luck!

I do hope that he gets the disability although what it means financially only time will tell. 9% dosen't sound a great deal to me but then i don't know what it means. to me you either can't work because of your back or you can.
He will have to do something though to fill his days and for his enjoyment of life.

All of that paperwork is so gross, and waiting and wondering is not good for the blood pressure.

I don't know the differences between workman's comp, disability and social security disability either.
