Re: Iv done the same

And does that mean, Katherine, that you did well with such quizzes, or not well? Certain things that may sound easy are sometimes anything but! Perhaps you're so far removed from school in general that your thought-process is no longer along these lines. I know mine isn't! I wonder if I could name all 50 states now! Hmmm . . .

Re:

I think, Utah, that when I got 49 out of 50 states, it was pretty darned good. But state capitols? That's a whole other ball of wax! Off the top of my head, I think I would be lucky to get a dozen! I guess that's a challenge for another day. Oh, and does Charleston ring a bell? ( Yeah . . . I had to look it up too! ).

Re: JimmyA

Although, Wiley, math and geography are two completely different animals, I'm sure the concept of remembering things is the same. I was usually good at both, but when you start introducing algebra into the equation . . .

Re: I'm sure I could do it

Well, jollyjeff, being the "final" question on the exam, we really didn't have a whole heck of a lot of time, and perhaps it was that pressure that kept me from remembering Iowa. Regardless, it's still a somewhat fun exercise to give yourself.

Iv done the same

I have done the same in high school as well, once or twice and I thought the same way now as I did then

I used to spend lots of time on the road and I would amuse myself with this quiz plus the capitals...I had the hardest time with the capital for West Virginia.

Imagine, my dad was a bookeeper and government tax collector and I failed math right up to 8th grade when I quit.LOL

I'm sure I could do it

but you'd have to give me a pretty long time to think of them all

Re:

What made it so amazing and interesting, Eleanor, was that it seemed so simple at the time. In fact, after hearing our teacher's stories, we assumed that we wouldn't be getting such an easy question on our final exam, but we did anyway! Like I wrote, even though 49 out of 50 really wasn't so bad, it would have bothered me for the rest of my life if I had handed in that exam with one state missing! It pays to listen . . . !

Re:

Go ahead, calia. It really does sound easy, but you'll be surprised that, when your list gets up to 46 or 47, suddenly the names of certain states will somehow escape you! It's a good memory exercise.

Re:

It sure did, FSI! That's why I wrote that I really didn't cheat, but I was more than happy to "overhear" an answer I was missing!

Hey, Kabu, sometimes ya gotta do what ya gotta do! And anything medicinal should always be done as carefully and accurately as possible! No cheating or cutting corners there!

Re:

That's good too, TAPS. I just recently read an article on memory and various mental exercises ( a future blog ) and it really does pay to test yourself from time to time with relatively simple questions like this. Give it a shot! Just don't forget Iowa!

I am too, luster. Like I wrote, I just couldn't bear to have handed in that exam with one state missing! It seemed easy, but it wasn't!

Re: Re: I always had to get some help with my Maths in University.

OK honesty?????One of the young one's would put their exam paper far enough over to the side for me to read off the answers.   Now when I was nursing I always checked any maths to do with drips or medication with pharmacy.

Well, I guess I should try it and see if a 74 (going on 75) year old can remember all of them.  I can still name all 66 books of The (Protestant) Bible.  LOL

that would be hard to do, glad you got the answer

Re: I always had to get some help with my Maths in University.

When you mean help, Kabu, did you mean "Help," or help
