Much to my chagrin, I'm afraid I must admit to having been rather good at plausible deniability throughout my lifetime. It worked good for me because I was always very believable, and innocent looking.

I've read a lot of "southern" literature that involves hunting dogs
who take on the legendary mantle of sports heroes. Ol' Red could tree a 'coon when every other hound in the pack had long since fallen over from exhaustion, or stuff along that line. I like your story better.

Well I suppose pointing is a breeding trait quite interesting to see it does not have to be taught. Some dogs use their nose. Is that a Setter? I have only had tail waggers.
