Pat
The loss of the car tends to be single most significant event in that downward spiral of losing one's independence, and for many people the loss of their independence is so damaging psychologically that it exacerbates their condition, as does the move into an 'assisted living facility'...Of course, their often is no other solution, but in all cases it should be the last one...

Pat sadly in my experience possessions or money drive many folk to place parents in places as cheaply as possible. Anyone who has doubts about about the future should if possible get advice about future care. I have witnessed breaking point and it is remarkably frail, even beyond one's own belief.

Did you ever read "Let The Hurricane Roar" when you were in high school? I always wanted to go like that old lady did in the end. But, it doesn't work that way often.

the way the economy is eating into my nest egg I won't have any money
for anyone to fight over soon, and if I do I will spend it on a trip down under to see a few dear faces again.
I pray my DIL's never get a chance to get their hands on me when I can't look after myself anymore. Wiley and I intend to hold each other up right, no matter what.LOL....and your idea makes sense to me but not yet dear one.

My family is actually in a similar boat. My mom ( who turns 78 in two weeks ) has already been diagnosed with the beginning stages of Alzheimer's. She lives in Texas with my sister and brother-in-law ( my dad passed away 7 years ago ) and my sister had to take her car keys away recently as well. However, my mom did not put up a fight at all, knowing that it was in her best interest to do this. Best of luck with your own situation. Hopefully, money issues won't cloud people's judgements and assessments of things. People should come first!
